Auto Designer Suggestion

It would be great if in Auto Designer the starting body types maybe fell into say 3-4 different "styles" that would be the starting point for customization. Using the demo hatchback as an example:

Style 1 -Squared Off (i.e. VW Golf MKI)
Stye 2 - Rounded/Curvy (Peugeot 308, Last Nissan Micra)
Style 3 - Wedge Shaped (Prius)

Since the game starts post WWII, maybe a few different customizable base styles could be done for each decade

1940s-50s
"Bathtub" (Late 40s Nash, Lincoln, Packard, Mk I Zephyr, etc)
"Separate Fenders" (Renault 4CV, Mercedes 300, etc)
"Finny" (mid-late 50s American)
"Spacey" (Citroen DS, 1953 Studebaker, etc.)

I think this would allow for a greater variety of style to be developed using the customization tools the game offers, and will promote more creativity and fun in gameplay.

I am SOOO looking forward to the launch of this game! I cannot wait to play it!

Re: Auto Designer Suggestion

i also have a few suggestions
- being able to rotate and change light size
- Able to change the width of the tires? they look rather silly now, like spacesavers, they could also effect handling characteristics
- asymetrical placement of items, i.e on one side but not the other?

these i think would make it better and allow more customisation

Re: Auto Designer Suggestion

I thought about something similar, but many base bodies under every category, not a few.
The variety of the car designer is a must. I know it's a great amount of work to make so much modelling, but I would be happy with simple models: black tinted windows are OK I think, no need to detail the interiors.

Re: Auto Designer Suggestion

Oh yes, there will be a lot more base car bodies - considering the customization really only lets you make detail changes to the cars rather than completely redesigning them, we'll provide lots of base cars to work from.

I'd like to think ideally there would be at least 10 base bodies hatchbacks alone, and a similar number of other types of car also, plus we also hope to add the ability to stamp in your choice of grilles, possibly vents as well - also we'll probably have add on side skirts, flares, spoilers etc.

Really, we'll make as many cars as I can find the time to make (or as many as we can afford to contract out to other artists) and its the kind of thing that would be A: something we would continue to work on after release to add more content and B : moddable so you can add your own models if you're decent at 3d work

I did mention in the video the ability to scale lights, rotation will also be controllable as well.

The tyres are space savers. Within the wizard you have not got to wheel and tyre selection yet.

asymetrical placement of items would be doable.

Re: Auto Designer Suggestion

I found out about your development today and must say it has gotten me very excited.
A suggestion which i haven't seen in the videos so far
Would it be possible for more deform point on the models?
e.g. be able to lower or raise the shoulder line of the car at the various pillars?
or altering the height of the roofline at various points to make a car look more (or less) coupe like.

From the Design posting thread

These two cars are based on the same car body, so as you can see you can change the amount of "coupe-ness" quite easily.

As for the should thing I believe it's one off the more difficult areas to make work without it looking ungainly.

Re: Auto Designer Suggestion

Yeah, we basically make as many deformation points as we can get looking good - "Shoulder Line" is quite a hard one though.
