v6 variations

I know they are a ways off still but is there any plan to add different degree v6's? We have cross and flat plane v8's but can we expect 60/ 90/ 120 degree options or is the plan to keep it to a single generic v6?

I dont know how this affects engine volume or "stableness" precisely, but if so, it could be an option. Though, flat 6 (or so called boxers) will be in eventually. For the V8s I think it has to do with performance. Flatplanes tend to be more stable if I understood correctly, thus being able to handle higher RPMs.

The angle would affect smoothness and external size along with a few other factors, though I'm not sure if it would be deemed enough to justify the extra art time.

Yeah, it basically only affects smoothness and size. Considering you'll be able to choose from so many engine types already, this indeed probably is not worth it. It was considered of course, but dropped almost two years ago. I think we still have the smoothness multipliers lying around somewhere... :P

Oh well, I figured I'd ask. So I'm assuming the model will be based on a 60 degree?

Safe bet.

Does this mean we wont get VR6 ish engines?
And is it sure/confirmed we get W8/12/16/18 ish engines?
And being on a questionstreak, is a VR6 considered an Inline or a Vee engine?

Thx for reading!

http://automationgame.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=4069 check there for what's in and what's out. All vw style super narrow angle engines are not currently planned, though are a possible dlc far in the future. As for what they are that's tough, their narrow angle cylinder bank (banks for w) share a head and camshafts like a inline, but for the most part they are a v design.

This had me thinking too, I always considered them an inline 6 engine cuz it has 1 bank, block, head and camshaft (2 if DOHC jk).
Meh another reason for me to cause a headace.

Anyway, thx for the link!

so a slightly out of line inline 6 ;)

Technically speaking, the 90 degree V6 is inferior to the 60 degree V6 (latter is actually the optimal angle for V6). And If we only get one version of the second most common engine configuration in modern cars, then I personally don’t think it would be very great idea to go with the technically inferior build..

About the degree of the V engines, it also applies to V8s. GM made V8s from narrow to W configurations over the years and they did have slightly different characteristics (smoothness, torque, differing CFM requirements for same CI, efficiency, rpm tolerance) but it was mainly to see which design offers the best of both worlds. V6s I believe had a longer experimental period due to the different market for V6s being not quiet so focused on power, but efficiency and reliability.

Huh, I did not know about that. Only V8s Im aware of are 90deg (Most things) and 60 deg (Yamaha stuff, Taurus SHO & Volvo V8)

VR6s would be cool, but they don't really seem feasible.

Imho the concept of a VR or W engine is a good one, only my dad owned a VW Golf III VR6 wich was 6 years at the time, and was very unreliable...
Too bad, cuz if the car wasnt at the garage, it was as fast as sh*t...
