Rear mounted gearboxes?

Used the search and couldn't find anything. I was wondering if you guys had any plans for rear-mounted Gearboxes, like you'd find on an Alfa Romeo?

Re: Rear mounted gearboxes?

What you mean is Transaxle :)
A good question actually - it should be included, as it gives a way better weight distribution for sporty cars.

Re: Rear mounted gearboxes?

Don't forget Ford RS200 and Nissan GTR.

Transaxle AND awd/4wd.

The RS200 even had a lever that selected between 50/50, 25/75, 0/100 awd modes. Mecanical, no computors. :geek: :ugeek: :geek:

(I had a Volvo 340 myself)

Re: Rear mounted gearboxes?

Wasn't the Ford RS200 mid-engined?

Re: Rear mounted gearboxes?

Yepp, mid engined, but the gearbox was mounted together with the front differential. Therefore, transaxle.

There is also something else, some of the cars also mounted the clutch with the gearbox, (Alfa Romeo, latest Corvette?), others with the engine.

Re: Rear mounted gearboxes?

Possibly a bit later on, but for now we've got to get things like mid engine layouts sorted first.
