Test track's look and final project

Hello everybody,

Sorry if this has been suggested already, I took a look and couldn't find like this...
I was wondering how the test track would look after it has been completed. Will it stay the way it is now with the car as a white rectangle or will the track show the car as an image? I was wondering after everything has been completed if you could show the 3D car testing on the track, like a replay of a racing game for example? Seeing the car travel around the track in 3D perhaps from like a view of a spectator would be nice. I know this would require a lot of graphics work but possibly after everything is completed it could maybe before an option? Even if the car is slow it would be interesting to see a our cars travel around the track. Either way the game is coming along great :) . The addition of the new track is a great way of showing that you guys care about our suggestions and are actively making this game more interesting for us (even if there is a lot on your plates and some suggestions seem too over the top). Thanks guys!

The white rectangle will be replaced, but it is not clear if it will be a generic car, or a top view of your own car. About the 3D driving, this would take tens of thousands of dollars, as well as many months/years. Remember, the team is only 3 people, not a multi-billion dollar enterprise with thousands of employees.

Please note that the test track feature adds absolutely nothing to the actual tycoon gameplay experience. It's a bonus feature for all the car nerds out there and it should not use more development capacity than it needs to make the basic feature working. Anything eye-candyish just means more development time for the complete game. It 's a thing for post-release updates if ever considered at all. The white bus sure has to be replaced.

From the point of view of the guy who wrote the core calculations behind the test track simulation: I would have been totally fine with a dot representing the car moving around the drinving line giving you just the lap time. Anything else (sound etc.) already is bonus for me.

Or maybe even just a triangle? Just something besides that big white rectangle :P

Just to be clear I wasn't talking about driving at all, more like a spectator watching your car drive around the track kind of thing. And I do appreciate everything. The track is already a big bonus.

Re: Test track's look and final project

If we get the chance to, that is something we'd like to do, but yeah, we probably won't have the manpower for getting that done. Remember all the other engine types that need to be modeled and the cars, etc. :) lots to do! And yes, a driving simulator would cost (rough estimate) 300000 bucks and 2 years of time... giving a simulator inferior to those out there, so nothing we're going to do for vanilla Automation for sure.

Yeah, the 2d test track stuff is kind of built with "Hey, if we ever have lots of spare time and money, all the stuff is here to make it 3d". But that'd require the spare time and money :P

Maybe check with Bugbear, the company that makes the Flatout games. Road test and "EuroNCAP" at the same time.
