Suggestion for the timing slider

When adjusting the timing (advance / retart) the default is '50' right in the middle of the slider. I have been assuming this to be 0* TDC.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

If I am correct, I would presume that '100' correlates to a certain degree after TDC, and '0' being a certain degree before TDC. (it could be 50* in either direction but I do not know how this was programmed / calculated). I think that having the slider at default, in the center, being '0', full advance being +50 and full retart being -50 would be nice. I know its semantics, but just a thought.

Re: Suggestion for the timing slider

The engine designer is 99% locked down already, and we removed the can timing slider as it didn't play well.
The cam profile slider does what it says - it sets the can profile. That's a combination of lift, duration and angle. The small scale on the right gives you a good hint what the individual values mean.
100 is a race cam
65 a sport cam
40 an standard can
20 an eco cam

Re: Suggestion for the timing slider

Having seen you nice review of Automation (here) it looks like you have referenced so rather outdated pictures of the Automation engine designer.
Back then there were a cam timing slider but it has since been removed because it wasn't adding much to the gameplay and the cam slider was an all-in-one thing already.

And clearly you can't have been missing it when you were actually playing the game or you would have noticed the difference :P

We used to get a lot of suggestion of more detailed cam sliders from people that seemingly wanted Automation to be a desktop dyno with fancy graphics. But that really wouldn't be practical in the tycoon part of the game or fun for the vast majority of people playing. Those suggestion have seem to quieted down after the car designer were released, now we just get battery placement suggestion

I used some GIS images as I didn't take any screen shots of my actual game play. I downloaded the latest update last night (or at least what I thought was the latest update) but the slider is still there.

Re: Suggestion for the timing slider

Ahh, I think he means the Ignition Timing slider. That is not actually representing a particular timing figure, as ignition timing varies a lot based on RPM and Load. What it really represents is a general measure how how aggressively advanced the ignition timing is across the entire RPM and load range.

Also if it was you that posted the review on Jalopnik, Thanks! It's driven loads of new people to our website, much appreciated. Also if Kinja lets you replace images I can direct you to some newer screenshots that show the game off a bit better if you'd like :)

Gotchya, and sure, I will gladly go back and update the images. You guys are building a great game so far and I can't wait to see the final product so anything I can do to help generate more buzz and / or funding would gladly be obliged.
