Turbo setups

Hello!

So i wanted to ask about this and didn't find a thread about it so i made this. And i made it in Suggestions, because this is what it kind of is.

About turbo setups..

Are we able to have "sequential" turbos?

And how about placing the turbos in V engines, have you though about this? Mercedes has this in its new V6 diesels.

The turbo is in between the cylinders and "behind" the engine.

EDIT: Oh and of course i volunteer for the finnish translation of the game. :D

Re: Turbo setups

BMW also have the turbos inside the V on some petrol engines.

Re: Turbo setups

You'd get those if you could name a few examples of cars (stock!) having more than 3 Bar boost.

Re: Turbo setups

We'll why do we have to know cars that have boost levels over 3 bar in order to raise the limit in the game? just asking, but i can think of few. Black Smoke Racing team has 3.2 bar in their Mercedes-Benz W123 :!: wagon :!: driftcar, and BMW had the 1.5l racing engine in the eighties, could withstand over 5 bars of boost. Raising the boost limit adds bit of fun (or you may call it insanity) into the game.

BMW's N57S engine, used in the m550d x-drive for example, peaks at 3.5bar apparently.

mmmmm, torque.

so anyway, according to wiki that means the following all use 3bar and over:

2012- BMW M550d xDrive
2012- BMW 750d xDrive
2012- BMW 750Ld xDrive
2012- BMW X5 M50d
2012- BMW X6 M50d

Re: Turbo setups

:) While that may seem like an example, it really isn't: you did see the word "diesel" in there, didn't you?
What must be mentioned in that context is that once/if diesels are added, they will get their own engine designer!
And including higher pressures for diesel engines only makes sense, as these examples show. For petrol cars, they really don't!

I'm hoping that isn't an entirely serious question lol...yes of course I did. I also noticed the lack of the words 'diesel' or 'petrol' in the question you asked. You asked for examples of cars with over 3bar boost - there's 5 of them, even if they all use the same engine :P I don't disagree that the game should align itself with whatever is out there, but I would love to hear the technical explanation as to why lots of boost like that cant be used on a petrol engine.

Re: Turbo setups

Heh, alright then :P I was too much only considering stuff within Automation 1.0
Why you can't make use much boost in petrol engines? Mainly because octane requirements go ballistic with added boost, as the effective compression of the engine increases. That's why you want to use higher boost in diesels, as they benefit from higher compression without having most of the disadvantages.
