Factory Backed Motorsport

I know ive asked this before in another thread a while ago, but i'll post it here again in the correct forum.

As the title suggests, would car companies be able to fund and sponsor motorsport, as well as building special cars / engines etc specifically for motorsport? Such as the Group C and A rules during the late 70's, 80's and 90's and also back production based racing such as the era around the 60's and 70's.

Something like this could be a good way to market your cars, especially if you are designing muscle cars, or producing smaller cars that can really compete with the big bangers (eg Holden Torana inline 6 beating the Ford Falcons with their 351 Windsor V8's around Mount Panorama etc etc. During the Production racing series here in Australia, the saying after the main race of the year (The Bathurst 500 (mi, now known as the Bathurst 1000 (km)) was "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday"

I figure that if you guys would include some features like this, it would come at a later date after the game is released etc.
