I just have to say i love this game. even thought the full game is not out yet i already love it.
i have one thing to suggest in my favor and probably many other people want this too. Please make diesels earlier than you said you would. yes ,i have read the post ("Game at Launch, What is in? What is Out? - Updated 20/5/2011"). i really want diesels because they have the most torque out of any other type of engine.

And i want my company in the game to make towing vehicles/heavy duty trucks(f-450, dodge ram hd, ect...). you cant have a heavy duty truck line with out a diesel. and no I'm not a hillbilly or redneck.

Sorry, but that would just take us too long...

it's not like adding "diesel" as fuel option. Diesel engines will need their own separate Engine Designer!

ah, that explains the hold on it, fair do's if its a whole other engine designer. Looking forward to the point where we can actually start businessing in this game

I also think it would be cool to see diesels. Maybe add it after the game is finished in a major update

Diesel engines in Automation would be great. I know its a lot of work, but think of all the car companies which offer diesel engines. Not at release, but maybe later.

Yes, diesels will be one of the first things we'll have to consider for after release, but I would estimate that implementing diesels now would add about 6 months to development time... and asking people if they want their game early 2014 or late 2014, then I think people would prefer early 2014.

@Arvarik: Indeed, more and more folks being close by... I'm still waiting for someone from my working place address me and ask me about it. I think the closest Automation player is treav0r sitting about 10km north of here.

I wonder how much german players we have here... eh, back to topic^^
I'm really looking forward to the full game.

Yep can't wait for the full game and I wonder if the devs take a time off after release or if they instantly start making dlcs.

By the way: A friendly "hello" from Haßloch (about 90km away from Killrob)

I just imagine a diesel in Automation...
No matter how what Engine it is (V8, I4 and so on) it will sound like a tractor or you'll only hear a turbo screaming
Also I don't think that diesels will be very exciting - as the Rev Limit is pretty much nailed at ~6000RPM because of physics and they are quite heavy, but it could be useful for Economy Vehicles

you are right - diesels in general arent exciting - until you stick a god damn Scania Truck Turbo on one and shove 40-50PSI up its arse!

A car company without diesels is seriously handicaped. mercedes has been installing diesels in passanger vehicles for more than 100 years with huge succes. petrol engines were just as rough many years ago , just like diesels. and the fact they do not sound spectacular is not important. A succesful car company doesen't produce only sports cars. At least closer to completion disels should be added. i don't think it is that difficult. Most of the parts are already in place (conrods, engine blocks , heads, crankshafts, exhaust, etc.) 4 more fuelingsystems, pistons, camshafts and fuel values would take about 2 to 3 months at most to develop. They could be much easier to develop than petrols. Dieselsare pretty straightforward. TDC injection, narrow window of camshaft tuning, compression and fuel quantity injected are the most important parameters to a diesel. Turbos are already done. I think everyone is willing to wait a bit for diesels. I know Australia doesen't really like diesels , but in Europe they comprise about 50 % of road cars. Killrob is from Germany . Ask him how many cars produced in Germany are diesels and how many are petrol today. a try for at least inline 4s should be made. I owned many diesel and petrol cars; and i tell you diesels are not for tractors only. many luxury cars behave better with diesels than they do with ottos.

All my cars were diesels: Mercedes Sprinter 212D, VW Polo Variant 1,9 TDI, Seat Altea 2,0TDI. Danish taxes may force me to buy a petrol powered car next:-(

Indeed diesel engines are insanely important in all European markets, there is no doubt about that. What is easy to forget though is that diesels do have different inner working / physics and with that, all engine designer calculations have to change. You are right that the art side would not be such a huge deal - maybe a month of work for the first engine type - but the calculation side is. It is such a difference that we decided that once we add diesels (after launch!), it will open a diesel engine designer... which has completely different calculations running.
It is easy to underestimate the effort that goes into it

we even had someone who believed that adding a cylinder (I4->I5) basically is only changing one number in the code. Few people are that unaware of what lies behind things (a lot of work), and the diesel question is another such example, albeit less extreme.
Cheers!

I'm sorry I underestimated the calculations part. It's still a long way to completion, by the way when is the revamp ready? Can't wait to build more and better engines.
