the reason this would be a good idea is because it allows for you to make expensive impractical moon-shot type cars with out being penalized in terms of manufacturing costs and most importantly sales because people know that its not just a car with poor fuel econ its a top tier flagship performance car worth the price.
part of the reason you can't make those kinds of cars without a in house tuner is because a large company will burn through resources by putting too many people on the project and thereby pushing the design time and money off into infinity. plus the production cost of retooling your big factories to make low volume cars would bankrupt you every time you had a model change or wanted to offer the latest tech.
other benefits are that you can get the advanced tech out quickly and with the high model price pay for the development of the tech too, which will trickle down the model line after each passing year.
it would probably be hard to incorporate different bodykits to differentiate the performance models but that would also be cool.
just a thought, maybe I'm biased cause i own an M5 but i would love that as a feature, does anyone else agree.
