Re: grany gear

so i've got an idea

imagine the gear spacing tab in drivetrain, in the car designer

you have a checkbox for low-range, which doesn't mess up the spacing, just adds another number of whatever gears you have chosen for the current setup

should be easy enough to do, and should count as low-range gearbox or so called granny gear

Re: grany gear

Meh, just make the gear spacing per gear possibile, or with preset settings, like Normal, Sporty, Acceleration, Top Speed or something like that, but also to set the gears per gear yourself, including a final gear ratio... So offer a simple but also an advanced mode for that (not high priority though)

Re: grany gear

I was thinking about something similar (a checkbox near the gear spacing) that could add an overdrive to the gear box. Was a very common option in the past and quite useful too (gamewise) in order to improve the mileage.

Overdrive can already be simulated by giving your vehicle a higher than possible top speed, then spacing the other gears back to a more normal ratio.. The effect is a tall final gear for highway cruising.

I do however like the idea of a slider for a granny gear. It could control the first gear ratio exclusively, and leaves the other ratios to be set with the spacing slider & top speed slider.. Hmm, might need a checkbox to activate it though.
