"Yes, this 190 body is perfect"
"Oh, this 190 headlights fit it perfectly, and this merc grille too"
"Wait a minute, now it's just a mercedes 190. I know, I know... Switch the grille for the jaguar one and used Audi headlights."
"Perfect!"

You aren't wrong.

Sometimes I feel like I'm even copying other Automation Users sometimes...

While the bodies and fixtures are in many cases obviously based on RL vehicles, you know that nothing keeps you from making cars that do not look like the RL alternatives?

In the 1970s, we called this "American Motors Corporation". ;)

I'm not afraid to admit that HP Craftworks Series 6 Wagon has influences from the Audi S6.

Well, that is if you consider that the Automation world exists withing the real world... but if you consider that in the automation world there are not porshe, not chevrolet, no audi, etc, you feel less like a copycat automaker.

Plus, after a while, you start developing your own styles with the parts available.

i will kinda agree, because while i took the stock 70's pickup body and the front end resembeled nothing like RL, the rear end has similar taillights to a 70's ford F series except the reverse light is a blinker and the reverse light is on the tailgate like on an el camino, and for the engine i loosely based it off of a chrysler V8 by sharing the same bore/stroke with it, so i can see it

I don't copy anything. Instead I make something that would compete. I tried a really, really long time to get an original design, that I liked.

LOL! Well, the Gremlin and SST/AMX Javelin were actually both pretty cool cars. I wasn't making fun of that, but the fact they scavenged many parts from other manufacturers.

I've seen that shape before...

A few slight alterations of the Pinto and that AMC is the end result!

On-topic; I don't worry too much about the lack of generic fixtures as I tend to avoid the real life copy parts (unless they're pretty generic in deign and/or fit really well) and try to make my own designs. But some bodies just don't fit with some styles so "replica" designs are basically inevitable; when this happens I just console myself with the knowledge that my car is waay cooler than the real life muse,

In the 70s, AMC was pretty much it's own thing.

In the 80s, though, well, AMC was definitely shopping at other auto maker's garage sales.

The keys to my 87 Cherokee were cut from GM blanks, the distributor off the 4.0L six IS a Ford unit, and don't get me started on the Renault fuel-injection.

God bless you, AMC, rest in peace.

Except the Pinto was released in 1971, while the Gremlin was released in 1970. Chevrolet's Vega was also released in 1971. hahaha

I'd take a Gremlin over a Pinto or Vega any day. My '86 Jeep Grand Wagoneer has the same GM-style keys, plus an identical cruise control/wiper/turn signal switch as my '86 Cutlass Ciera. Plus the headlight switch and the door chime. The starter is a ford design including the fender mounted solenoid. The transmission is a Chrysler unit. The carburetor is a motorcraft, and the distributor is also a ford unit (Though every thing I've looked up tells me it should have a Chrysler one so someone probably changed it out at some point.) Now that I just derailed my train of thought, let me say I know the All Motors Combined way all too well. That being said I still love my Jeep to no end.
