Newbie Questions

Hello all, I have recently bought the game and having massive fun building and fine tuning my own cars. However to be completely honest, all of my designs save for the supercar have atrocious performance. I have no problems making power, putting it down is a different issue.
1.How do I improve my 0-60 time? I have built a 600 horsepower FR car that couldn't crack 5 seconds even with semi slicks and electric LSD. Is the gearing the issue?
2.Is there a tutorial thread somewhere on making objects such as pop-up headlamps from the assortment of fixtures provided in the game or are they all modded?
3. All of my cars (again save for the supercar) get terrible lap times, with semi slicks and high downforce. What should I do to fix this problem?

It is a combination of gearing, but also your torque profile. Two cars may have 600hp, but one has a lot of torque down low where as another has less torque, but at a higher RPM. The one with the higher torque will accelerate faster than the other, despite having the same (or even less!) power.
Post an image of your engine graph.

I ran a sample test of an quick FR car thrown together and my MR car both running the same motor.
The motor in question

The MR

The FR

The MR car has electric LSD yes, but it ran 295 tires on all 4 corners opposed to the FR car's 385 rear, the MR on sports compound even. Now I know that an MR car will have superior traction, but I doubt it is to such a degree. Could you identify the issue at hand?

Just a speculation without any test regarding the case.
You are heavily limited on tire grip, red line on top of the acceleration graph. (You have power but not enough grip) -> wider or better tires.
Power curve not optimal. Quite low power and torque on lower rpm. Typical with the turbo implementation in game right now. Will be improved in the future... Maybe bigger engine with not that much boost or even go with naturally aspired one....
I'd also think that first and second gear are far too long for above reasons. Maybe to hit the speed of 60mph just with second gear?

In case you don't want to install mods for pop-up headlamps for example, you could check out this video I made quite a while ago, about creative usage of the standard fixtures that come with the current game.

^ Huh?
EDIT: nvm. I see the question now.

I have went with a naturally aspirated motor. The car does 0-60 in 6 seconds with a 300 hp motor and a curb weight of 1200kg. That is not good at all.
The graph clearly shows the MR car to have a higher acceleration value than the FR car, despite the FR car having superior tires and width. Is there a way to fix this?

Why not just post the car and engine files? That'd make things so much easier to analyze.
That said, yes, it is normal for an MR car to have quicker acceleration vs an FR car... the extra weight on the driven wheels means more traction. Plus with such a powerful engine, you have even more weight transfer - which leads to more traction.
Also - I just built a 1,200kg car with 300 horsepower (5.8-liter 32-valve DOHC V8, naturally aspirated) and it did 0-60 in 4.4 seconds. Front engine, rear drive, 54/47 front-rear weight distribution, semi-slicks (285 width).
edit: (switched to a 2.0-liter turbo-4 with 300 horsepower - less weight on the front, 51/49 weight distribution, and got 4.2 seconds 0-60 - compensated for the weight difference by adding interior/entertainment quality, so still 1200kgs)
edit2: I guess what I'm hinting at is: if you fixed the gearing as JussiE suggested, to optimize your acceleration, the next step would be to check the weight distribution. A front-heavy rear-drive car will spin easily no matter what tires or differentials are equipped.

Where can I find those files if I may ask?
I now tried to build a 350 hp car. And it still wouldn't do 0-60 in under 6 seconds without resorting to 305 tires. I do not want to put sports compound as this is supposed to be a base model.

Heyya! That very much sounds like you have your power distribution slider all the way to "front"

please have a look.

Isn't that only important in 4WD vehicles? All of my cars are RWD.

Yes it is, but if you can't get below 6 seconds, that is pretty much the limit for FWD cars

that's why I'm pointing that out.

Do you think there is something wrong with my transmission set up?
I do not wish to change tires because mounting semi slicks and 305s is a bit overkill for a 40k car.

Increase top speed, it will noticeably increase fuel economy. that would be the only tip can give, other than that it looks good, i don't know why you're having such massive wheelspin, did you stick a big bad huge turbo on it? If yes, make the engine slightly larger and reduce the boost lag

This motor only produces 350 horsepower. This thread is me asking why I get monstrous wheelspin with a 350hp motor. And on fuel economy, yeah why am I getting mediocre values when my motor is running extremely lean?
