Three updates I think are needed.

Alright, there are three updates I'd like to see made very soon, and they are:

Scrolling for menus
Individual quality sliders for bottom end parts
Higher quality slider limit

First off, I believe it's common sense we should be able to scroll down in like the sandbox engines menu with the scroll wheel, I've got well over 100 engines.
Second, I've found many engines to be impossible or unrealistically bad in your game due to lack of the other features, case in point, Chevy L76 and LS7.

Both of those engines are street engines, not race engines or detuned race engines, therefore they should be able to be recreated in the game, however, in the case of the 1964 L76, the valve-train couldn't handle the speeds it can in real life even at max 15 quality in 1975 tech year! Those speeds are 6,700 RPM limit and peek power at 6,200 RPM.

With the 2006 LS7, it's the pistons that can't handle the pace, the LS7 is a 7 litre slightly over-square V8 that revs to 7,000 RPM and has I beam Titanium conrods and Hypereutectic cast pistons, why? I guess so they could run 11:0 compression and still have it meet emissions regulations and since the bottom end quality is for the entire bottom end, the LS7 in game has unrealistically high production units, so please add individual quality sliders for the bottom end just like in interiors.

Also, I experienced the 'steamroller' glitch you claim you fixed for the first time when I played the new stable release and when I add the front-facing air scoop to the bonnet of the Falcon coupe look-alike car it creates a hole in the bonnet on either side.

Scrolling for menus and lists will happen yep, we've got lots of UI improvements coming.

We used to have individual quality sliders per part, it got overly complex, micromanage-y and just all around painful.

The quality system will have more work put into it before the game is finished, I'm not sure if we'll go for higher limits, but there are changes coming around how they work for sure.

We need to have another look at valve float/valvetrain durabilty of OHV engines, it's still not quite right I agree.

I think we've now finally fixed the steamroller glitch (but not released the update for it yet) but we'll see, that one is a bit of a complex one.

To add to that, as the one who balanced the game in this aspect: I agree it's not perfect, but it was impossible to get things balanced for both high-tech American pushrod engines and low-tech other pushrod engines at the same time. I don't think it is possible to have them on the same scale at all, the American thing should be a much different thing, much more expensive and more capable.

We are aware of the issue and I think the only good solution is to add an "Advanced Pushrod" valvetrain to the game (using the same art assets, but having different stats).

Yeah I totally agree.

Considering the clever designs of modern LS V8s etc. with very short and stiff pushrods etc, I think that's kinda almost a different thing to the traditional sort with long floppy pushrods and no ability to run high revs.

I'm glad to hear about the advanced pushrod option, as for the quality sliders for individual parts I think at the very least there should be a different one for the pistons/conrods because they are always the first to wear out. I've never had a crankshaft reach it's limit.

That's because crankshafts have no rpm limit in Automation. They only limit the torque.

Happy new year everybody! I considered making this post on my engine recreation thread but since I really want a reply from a Dev and think I'm more likely to get one posting here, I'm going to do just that.

Daffy's quoted response here worries me greatly and the update videos on YouTube since where you showed the new OHV option as being called "Modern OHV" certainly didn't help. I believe I clearly stated in my initial post that it was the classic 60s engines that have problems with the valvetrain, not the modern LS engines so why bring up the LS engines? The LS7 being the highest revving LS engine with the biggest bore is definitely the most demanding on it's valves, yet it can easily be recreated with the OHV option already in game with only +8 quality and here's proof:

The (2001-5) LS6, LS2, LS7, LS3, (2014) LT1 and the Audi engine we tried recreating in our latest YouTube video all have hypereutectic pistons which exceed what your game thinks is possible, here's proof that the LS7 (the prime example of hypereutectic pistons being beyond what your game thinks is possible) has hypereutectic pistons: http://www.chevrolet.com/performance/cr ... s/ls7.html

Ugh... Why are you such a thorn in my side? My post had nothing to do with you and shouldn't have even concerned you yet you replied to it anyway. Moving on even with max 15 quality on the bottom end the pistons are still reducing the reliability and no I'm not going to post a picture proving it because you can download the engine and prove it to yourself. I find you really annoying and note that I wont be replying to you any further on this thread.

Oh it's okay pleb, we've had our conversations before and just approch things differently. I'd look at the ls7 and think "what best fits the idea of the pistons in game, oh light weight forged with some quality" he wants the in game parts to exactly match real world parts. It's a nice idea and all and I wouldn't mind more features myself, but this isn't a hardcore engine sim like desktop dyno and the audience base shouldn't be restricted to those who just really want to tinker with engines. I don't want him getting in more trouble for this as he obviously likes playing the game.

Seriously? I made this point to you before in those PMs we had, which finally settled the previous situation about pinning your engine recreation thread. Whenever somebody seems to come out with something opposite to what you believe you throw a tantrum. Why? Can't other people have their say about the subject?

If you can't accept what other people have to say then you shouldn't use the Internet. I do hope you aren't like this in real life.
