Update (25th June): Testers Selected

That went pretty smoothly, we got a bunch of new people willing to give it a go in the trial beta-phase of the new update, with the chance / option of becoming a full beta team member afterwards. On Friday morning all of you who were accepted will be given the beta tester status here on the forums, which lets you prepare and set up your testing profile. On Saturday we will then flag you as actual beta testers for the game, which allows you to start the beta. More info will come via PM before then. So here we go, the following are all the new testers that have been selected:

07CobaltGirl
Cheeseman
dillard7324
Drummerdude48
DuratecDriver
ElSaico
gt1cooper
maffc
o9kchocobos
pleb

Update (23rd June): Applications Closed

First of all, I want to thank everyone in here for their application. If you haven't posted your application till now, or haven't received a PM with the two questions, unfortunately your application didn't make it into the closer selection. Please check your PMs and answer the two follow-up questions until latest Tuesday the 24th of June (i.e. tomorrow).

Cheers!
/Robert

New Testers Needed

Like back in 2012, when we first released the engine designer along with the very first I4 scenarios, it is now time to finish off the car designer. With the upcoming big update adding the remaining stats come the first car designer scenarios too, which we now need some help with in balancing them! The plan is to release the next update with 9 car designer scenarios and a lot of improvements to the car designer and UI in general. This paves the way to our Steam Early Access release which comes with the next update after that, in which we polish up everything, revamp the multiplayer mode and add six tutorial car designer scenarios, among other things.

For this next goal/subproject we will need some new blood in the testing team and this is a call for new beta tester candidates. Now if you think we run the normal "join, fool around, put away" beta like most other game studios, you are mistaken... this is not a FAAAN beta! (Fool Around And Accomplish Nothing)

The Testing System

We are working in a system nicknamed POMMS (Project-Oriented Modular Motivational System), in which you are given "points" that add to your "power level" for all the work you do for the team. Tested a scenario? Gives a point. Reported a bug? Gives a point. Completed a quest on the quest board? Could give many points! While you are required to achieve a certain number of points to stay in the testing team each subproject, those that exceed expectations will be rewarded accordingly: a place in the game credits and a special forum status you certainly have seen around these boards already.

You are required to do (on average) about 1h of testing per week (4 points per week) during at least a usually 8-12 week long period (one subproject). As a new tester you are not thrown into the cold water (that would be a horribly broken alpha build), but rather eased into our testing process with some well-defined, more manageable tasks: we require you to reach a total of 18 points, i.e. finding the highest scoring solutions to all the new scenarios in two iterations. If you're decent at the game, that is about 5 hours of effort in total, spread over two weeks time. There are plenty of opportunities to show your worth as a tester apart from that too, and if you enjoyed being part of this and did a good job, we'll most probably invite you to join the testing team at the end of this trial phase, moving full speed into polishing up the game for the next big milestone that is Steam.

So Here is the Deal

Requirements:
  • You have preordered Automation.
  • You are willing to follow the rather strict testing rule set and work on the new scenarios as well as bug hunting.
  • You are willing to document your findings in a detailed fashion, in the tools we provide (Pivotal Tracker & Google Spreadsheets).
  • You know that "testing" does not mean "just playing around" and definitely is not fun all the time.
  • You can spend more than on average 1 hour per week on testing, and can invest at least 5h during the two week trial.

Application:
  • Write one post in this thread about why you are interested in taking part in this.
  • If we deem your application sincere, you'll be PMed two simple questions you need to answer (after the 22nd).
  • If your answers are satisfactory you will be accepted into the beta trial phase.

If you like the sound of this and want to contribute to Automation in a very hands-on way, and be credited for it if you're doing well, you are most welcome to post down below! Also, just be honest. We don't need people that just play around, and those will be sorted out very quickly. Your help would be greatly appreciated, and will make Automation a better product in the end - and the consequences of that should be to everyone's advantage!

This invitation to join the testing team will remain open until (and including) Sunday the 22nd of June. Post before then to be considered. :)

Cheers!
/Killrob

I'd like to take a crack at it. I've had a preorder since the beginning and have followed the development quite closely. I'm also a software engineer by trade so I have experience working with bug trackers, etc.

I'm vary interested in testing this game, I've had it preorded for a little over a year now. I don't have any beta testing experience but I love this game and getting a chance to be a part of the development would mean a lot to me. I've been waiting for a game like this for so long and to know I've helped the team with it would be great.
(Edit) I should also say that I've got a little bit of engine building experience in the real world so I wouldn't just be fiddling around with stuff I don't understand haha.
Thanks for reading my post

I'd love to be a new beta tester! The car designer is my favourite part and i'm happy to sacrifice some of my time to help you guys continue the awesome work. I have been on the forums for more than one and a half years and thus discovered a few bugs already. And i've always wanted to be a part of the team, knowing that i'll have a job to do and i'm responsible for that.

Hey, Kill Rob

I would be a great beta-tester because I have time on my hands. I am extremely Intelligent and good at looking for flaws, I am dedicated to the Automation team and can play for hours all day. I have discovered a few bugs without looking for them and can certainly be of help. I can accurately and dependably document my findings and alert the Automation team. Check out my car company page and you will see how detailed i can be. I have always been a loving fan and would be more than honored to help iron out the game, I will be able to dedicate myself to testing and not having fun. I entirely understand, I am 21 years old and ready to get down to business. I have practically supported automation from the start and am now presently showing myself more active in the community. I also actively am running @ Automation Enthusiasts Club on Facebook. Not many members wanna be active but im trying to think of a way to spark the community a bit.. we have quite alot of members.

Cheers! Joe

I'd love to be a beta tester, I would like to contribute to the success of Automation in any way I can. I feel I would be able to properly detail any bugs and balance issues. Not to mention, feeling like I have contributed somewhat to the making of this game would feel magical :). I have also done some testing with Street Legal Racing Redline things.

Automation is a game I have been dreaming about for most of my life. And I would love to help the game become the best it possibly can. I would be able to consistently invest at least 1 hour per day into productive testing and balancing (No FAAAN for me!). I am very enthusiastic about this game, and to see it come out as a great success after contributing to the quality of the finished product would feel amazing.

Cheers! :P

Hello there!

I'm Dennis, 25 years old from Denmark. I would love to help out with this project, I have way too much spare time ATM due to summer vacation (9 Weeks), and I love this game. It would be a great honor for me, to help test the game and hopefully help to get it even better.

I am very thorough and detailed in my work, so documentation of my work is no problem.

I consider myself as an extrovert pleased team player :-)

Hope to hear from you ;-)

I'd love to give beta testing a shot. I've don't have any experience beta testing games but as an engineering student I know how to write detailed reports and I have good computer skills. This is my dream game and I'd love to have a hand in making it as good as it can be.
Thanks!

Hi Killrob,

I would love to be an Automation beta-tester. It would be amazing to be able to help contribute to the ongoing success of the game! Although I have only been a member of the community for 6 months, I am very passionate about Automation, and would like very much to see the game being a success upon release. I have a lot of free time, and would be more than willing to give hours of quality testing per week, and can certainly give 5 hours (or more) of quality testing in the two-week trial period. In fact, I could probably give over 45 minutes per day of testing and reporting bugs, scenario scores, and doing other quests to help improve the quality of the game.

  • I indeed have preordered Automation.
  • I am willing to do all of these tasks, and face what they entail.
  • Thoroughly documenting my findings in no problem at all. I have a lot of experience with Google Sheets, and a very small amount of experience with Pivotal Tracker.
  • I am well aware that testing is not fun and games, and can involve a lot of not-so-fun tasks, but am still willing to to test.
  • I can spend much more than 1 hour per week if necessary, and will certainly test for 5 hours or more in the trial if I am accepted.

Jakgoe

I'll have a lot of free time in the next 2 months so i'll propably end up playing automation for at least an hour a day and i don't see a reason not to spend some more time helping you make the game better.
I also have a good memory so think I'll manage to report what i found with enough details

Id like to beta test this new build, have had automation for over a year and would like to help it progress further. I have beta tested a few other smaller games, and some of the current early acess titles on steam(If you call that "testing"). Im a college goer on summer vacation so i have plenty of time to test. I also have alot of experience with excel/google spreadsheets.

Would love to help out this game as much as i can.

Hello, folks.

I'd like to join the beta testing crew because it's a very good opportunity to

1) make this game an impeccable piece of polish.
2) shift away from the development arena and take a shot at this quality assurance thingy - it's a whole new world to explore, which I'm quite eager to.

Also I am currently unemployed, so spare time - and motivation to work on stuff - is not a problem.
