Push Rod handicaps for competition.

I was wondering if anyone wanted to discuss the possibility of creating a universal handicap for Push Rod engines similar to the N/a and Turbo handicap currently used in the track testing forum. Obviously in the real world large Push Rod engines have been competitive in some way shape or form in every Motorsport since racing was created. However the massive knowledge and trickery that has been at work with these engines to make them competitive can not realistically be modelled by the game engine as it would be impractical. Essentially I would like to see a capacity handicap similar to N/a and Turbo engines.

my current ideas is something like a 50%-75% capacity advantage over other N/a Engines.

i.e. they are competitive if other stuff is either forbidden or penalized.
A problem with that is "where to draw the line". -5% capacity for race exhausts, +15% for single barrel carbs? Doesn't make much sense IMO.

From my understanding, once tycoon mode is available, there will be tech pool similar to that found in scenarios. Researching these components can make them cheaper, less labor intensive, and far more competitive, like the American manufacturers do now. The same could be said for any specific component or system. 1st time out of the box, your product won't be top of the line (unless you outsource it to better manufacturing), but as you do and learn more about the technology, it will get better. If you focus on a specific setup/system type, you will be very good at it eventually. That's how it works in the real world. Correct me if I am wrong, please.

That is correct! American pushrod tech is at least +10 top end in the game.

Perhaps a better way to do it would be to give pushrod engines a man-hour limit bonus. Representing the idea that experienced push rod manufacturers could make a +10 quality without actually requiring the extra man hours to do so.

That's exactly the point of research (-> tech pool points) in the full game: You can build better parts with no extra effort.

I also want to be clear I mean to discuss how the forum competitions work and not how the game actually functions as I believe the game works nicely as is.

Then this discussion belongs in the BRC thread. :) I personally am not a friend of more rules and exceptions to the rules.

I dont see pushrods having any adavantages than stiffness and simplicity in racing... most often normal OHCs have big advantages over them, due to better breathing, less valve float and more valves.
So why wasting time in the BRC and using OHV anyways! DOHC-5 all the way :D

Also: More rules = more disqualified people... even now there are more than enough DQs
