Help us out! Car Designer Scenarios

Car Designer Scenarios

In the next weeks we will implement the final Car Designer features. The plan is to deliver a fully functioning Car Designer with all
Stats for a completed car.

With this release we need to start thinking about the content early, and while our brains start disintegrating from thinking too much
about how the hell to make things work, we would like to ask you to help us come up with 12 brand new scenarios for this release.

What Kind of Scenarios Do We Want?

Difficult to say! What we want first and foremost are awesome stories to go along with the scenarios. Don't limit possible options too
much either, don't make things ultra specific. Like in the finished game's campaign mode, we want you to have all kinds of options.
You get a problem, you solve it your way.

Do I want to meet the power requirement with a nice modern naturally aspirated V8 in a sports car, or a super-smooth high revving
I6 in the shell of a sedan with more comfort maybe, or go for a nasty little turbo ecobox!? Options, choices, possibilities... and the
12 new scenarios must be of that type. Unlike the example below, be creative!

Your Favorite Car-Designer Scenario in the Game

1) Provide a short scenario description. What is the challenge about?
Example: 1973, USA. The oil crisis has a hard grasp on the country, and people start to feel the pressure to maintain their
mobility. More economic cars sure would help and turn the crisis into an opportunity!

2) What technical limitations should be imposed on the player in this challenge?
(Max. 5 different limitations)
Example: Comfort over L, Tameness over M, Economy under N, 0-100 time under P

3) What technical specifications is the car supposed to have, and how are those weighted in importance?
(Max. 5 different specifications)
Example: Economy better than x (50%), Sportniness more than y (15%), reliability better than w (10%), Tameness better than O (5%)

Please consider using the main car stats (prestige, safety etc.) as much as possible

The respective number in 3) is a hard limit, you need to be better than all of these at the same time to successfully complete the
challenge. If this requirement is fulfilled, you get a higher score for larger margins you beat the threshold with. Because it is impossible
to have a perfectly balanced and perfectly realistic game at this stage of development, just use x, y, z, etc. instead of actual numbers.
The closed-beta testers will determine what actual values make for good gameplay in the current version of the Car Designer.

You are most welcome to make suggestions! We will then be able to choose the best scenarios being presented here and save time in
the process. This thread will remain open for about 7 days, but the earlier we get your suggestions the better!

Use this template to post your suggestions:

Re: Help us out! Car Designer Scenarios

Scenario Description: 1982, Brick Foundation Restoration
Ladrillo Automotive has built a reputation for producing very safe and durable cars. While this especially helped sales in the health-and safety-conscious 60s and 70s, by 1980 their reputation for building rather boring cars caused sales to collapse. Can you build a car that is both true to the company's culture and exciting enough to attract new buyers?

Technical Limitations:
Safety > x
Emissions < y
Economy > z
Reliability > r

Technical Specifications:
a) Comfort > x (25%)
b) Prestige > y (25%)
c) Sportiness > z (25%)

e) Weight < w (15%)

Re: Help us out! Car Designer Scenarios

@WizzyThaMan: You are not supposed to put in numbers, also you have the same limits as specs.

@Jakgoe: We cannot use "E30 M3", its a bit too.... specific.

Re: Help us out! Car Designer Scenarios

1) 1970ish American police car. Think 'police interceptor' special. Must have a certain level of tameness and reliability, but long-legged power and high speed cruising are the goals. 1970 is probably when you could have the most fun with this, but it'd work for any era.

2) Can't be too loud, must be large enough for a few baddies in the back and the equipment, no emissions restrictions (or bare-minimum for later years), must run on 'premium' US fuel or less. A price limit would be a must, as would a reliability minimum.

3) Sportiness and tameness come first, comfort and prestige matter little. Safety matters but not to a huge degree.

Re: Help us out! Car Designer Scenarios

Yes, the story / description is what makes the suggested scenarios stand out. :)

For the stats just put in something that makes sense in the context, we'll figure out which stats to use with the scenario anyway, and have to go through a pre-prototyping stage where a very rough set of stats is determined.

Re: Help us out! Car Designer Scenarios

Here goes:

Scenario Description: Family affairs:
The year is 1984 and a new concept of cars was born: MPVs! Families now have the chance to buy an affordable, yet prestigious, safe and economical car that could fit the entire family (7 seats available) for vacations, shopping, travelling around the country, and at the same time could be used for business purposes.

Technical Limitations:
a) MPV body
b) year 1984
c) >= 5 seats (would be great if that option could be implemented in some bodyshell)
d) regular leaded

Technical Specifications:
a) economy (>=20%)
b) safety (>=30%)
c) prestige (>=30%)
d) tameness (>=40%)
e) power (> 80hp)

...well, or something like that...

Re: Help us out! Car Designer Scenarios

Scenario Description: Baguette and Bordeaux Wine, 1989
The French government is using outdated, non-reliable cars as their transport. Also the luxury levels are way below standard, which makes them look ridiculous when leaders of other countries visit them. They need something to show their supremacy, something to be proud of. You have been assigned to save the French pride. Vive La France!

Technical Limitations:
Advanced safety
Advanced Luxury
Must use Limousine base model (or atleast 4 door car)
MTBF higher than 60.000 km
kW higher than 275

Technical Specifications:
a) Comfort over W (20%)
b) Reliability over X (10%)
c) Prestige over Y (20%)
d) Loudness under Z (10%)
