Alpha Automation to now...

Hey guys, I wasn't sure were to post this so sorry but was just wondering I came across this video of a very early release of Automation and was wondering, how much of the content shown in this alpha version will carry over to the newer Automation release.

THe main thing I noticed in the video was reference to the interior options as seen at 7:30 in the video? It's surprising how the earlier release had better options than the current "newer" version

Anyway if you have not seen it here is the video I refer to:

Re: Alpha Automation to now...

If this is your way of getting what you want (interior options individually) then you are quite failing at it. There is a reason why it was in the Alpha, and not in the Beta anymore. If you could explain into gamemechanics, gameflow and other interesting details for the gamedevelopers why individual selectable options would be better, then do so and you might have a chance.

I tried that as a gamedesigner, and I was quite right in quite some ways. Though, the somewhat more micromanagement disrupts gameplay according to the devs and we have to live with it.
I personally would like to see those individual options and a bit moreinterior design than just selecting a package. But the way it is currently done is good enough, too.

End of the day, someone is probably going to mod this in.

Re: Alpha Automation to now...

Also, don't forget that in this video you were seeing options, but they didn't actually do anything, there was no implementation, no balancing, no optimization of game flow. That version was a very simple proof of principle "smoke & mirrors" version if you wanted to be frank... a piece to show roughly what is to be expected and to test how things potentially could work. Nowadays we're working on the real deal and what you see is actually meaningful in gameplay context. Our measurement stick for game quality has since then been raised a lot.

NO it is not my way of getting what I want and that is a rude thing to assuming I was mealy stating that it's disappointing to see that in the early models you could set like what stuff you want in the car but now it's just "basic interior" and that's it.

IT MAY seem tedious to you have all these options but I and I guess a few other players would like to select the interior options. Doesn't have to be excessive just like in this video, a check boxes to select different interior toys :P

Also will there be a system to "grade" cars you design by like the "press" or public say out of 5 stars or 10 points? So if you design a rubbish car you get say only 1star or 2/10? Like will there be a rating system or public approval of cars we design & produce?

Re: Alpha Automation to now...

There will be some kind of ratings of how well liked your cars are I'd imagine, as that'd be useful data to help you optimize your sales. Probably also a way of comparing how good your car is at suiting a particular market and how it compares "Is it a good cargo van? Is it a good super car? Is it more economical than its competitors?"

The different interior packages will have descriptions explaining what's contained in them so you can get an idea of what the interior would be like, but I really can't see much point in adjusting individual parts of the interior, if you want leather seats you probably want leather door trims too. If you want wood grain panels you probably don't want cheap cloth seats and rubber mats for the floor, so from that point of view it makes sense to bundle them into different trim levels, which research can unlock better and more modern versions of.

That's rather insteresting. The awesomeness of the current game made me forget the times when I discovered it. :)
I'd like to know why so many 3D models got scraped until now, like the chassis, the bodies, the wheels... ?

On the options/trims thing I have a quick question, will they effect parasitic loss? Can we in the future opt for power steering and air conditioning delete for a small boost in power and economy? Will electric assist steering be a thing as well?

I would think all these consumer friendly features (including things like power windows and more) are pretty important...especially considering a large part of what makes certain luxury cars "luxury cars" is the amount of bells and whistles...especially ~futuristic~ and cutting edge features.

Re: Alpha Automation to now...

Well yes but a selling point on muscle cars was factory delete options. Mostly I'm wondering about the parasitic loss factor.

Re: Alpha Automation to now...

In fact it's pretty easy : with each level of entertainment/driver assist package, reduce power by x% or cut x hp from the final output.
