I have never been interested in the actual stats of an engine, I dont understand shit of it, but I am interested!

So, I have a couple of questions regarding some stuff in the game:

How do I actually increase the Power of an engine? What options do i need to play with to get the best Power possible?
What determines how big the MTBF is?
How do I prevent knock?! I never understood what it means and how I prevent it!

This is just a few questions I have, I will probably come with more as I play
