Open Beta: Quick-Fire Multiplayer

The Engine Designer quick-fire multiplayer mode has progressed nicely, and we are ready to let
you guys have a go at it too! Before we officially release it we want to make sure that the server
and calculations are stable - and for that we need you. We plan on running the open beta phase
for abaout a week.

The multiplayer mode works like this: you have a game lobby in which you can meet up and chat
with people, you can join or create a game, which gets you into the fun: designing an engine for
a randomized set of specifications and limitations. Sounds familiar? Well, apart from the time
limit, it should!

There is a world ranking and you can climb the ranks by gaining power level, which you get by
doing well in multiplayer games. The larger the games and the better your opponents, the more
power level you gain. And when your power level is OVER 9000, you are super-awesome.

The patch will not download automatically just yet because it is not a full public release. If you
want to help us test things you are welcome to download the new launcher and the latest patch.
Install the new launcher first, then the latest patch.

In order to increase the server load to a maximum, and try out big games (no player limit!), we
are running several "playing with the devs and testers" sessions. These will be announced on
facebook and on our forums. The very first one is happening this evening at 20:00 CET
summertime.

Please note: In the open beta the only supported language is English!
Please note: If your computer is a bit slower, you might want to check out the new launcher option
which disables engine graphics in multiplayer and thus significantly reduces part loading times.

Update:

There has been an update for the client, if you don't update you will get a constant "You have
already connected message" please download it here:

Re: Open Beta: Quick-Fire Multiplayer

Probably there was a game running when you tried to join. I think you have to wait until the running game is over. You can see the remaining time in the server screen. Refreshing the page will update the remaining time.

Re: Open Beta: Quick-Fire Multiplayer

If anyone wants to get some practice in, I'll be online most of the day with a game open up until the devs/testers session later tonight. I swear I will hold off with the V8s. Mostly. I've got it set with a long time and no fails if anyone wants to get a feel for the multiplayer.

Get a set of stats/limitations and a time limit, best engine for the stats given wins. In a nutshell.

Re: Open Beta: Quick-Fire Multiplayer

So far the entire game including the launcher has become unstable and refuses to respond for periods of time. Even causing the rest of my computer to become slow and unstable yet everything is fine(heat cpu ussage etc).

I will update this post if i get a solution.

Computer restart fixed the issue.

Re: Open Beta: Quick-Fire Multiplayer

Tried Quick-Fire Multiplayer last evening for the first time. Although the session ended because of some server problems (I'm sure that those will be fixed before release. Indeed it's a beta at the moment) the game play itself was a lot of fun. A great addition for the game at the moment when the tycoon part is not available yet.

It's really nice to compete against human beings and another great aspect is the time limit. It's of course a must have in multiplayer but It would be nice to have possibility to practice this alone. So some single player time limited scenarios would be nice to have. :)

Re: Open Beta: Quick-Fire Multiplayer

Thanks for the feedback JussiE, indeed, the single player version of the multiplayer scenario generation will be implemented very soon too.

At some point we hope being able to make a singleplayer training program for this kind of multiplayer mode AND the campaign mode. If the player wants, resulting in a higher difficulty, the grand campaign can be played in real time... and you definitely need to get faster at designing solid engines for that :) So a singleplayer version of the current time-limited, randomized engine scenario generator will be very useful.

Cheers!
