Of course for the customer, cheaper is better, but we want to make enough money to keep making games.

With that in mind, what would you say is a fair price for Automation?

EDIT (12/8/11): Price will be $20 for Preorder, $30 when completed

I voted for 40USD..

So far from everything we have seen the quality of the work is as good as any major game(in terms of graphics and interface.. Detail wise its better). 40USD is still cheaper than most any major game released, and I would happily pay that.

I can see where selling cheaper might help sell to people on the fence.. But I think the main target audience for this game would pay 40$ no problem.. Maybe have a good discount for those 4 key packs that were mentioned?

I wouldn't want you guys to sell yourselves short and not be able to keep improving this wonderful game after release :)

Well I hadn't thought of that case.. here 40$ buys might buy a meal for 3 at a restaurant, Or a blueray movie, or around 33litres of regular gas.

Wow.

Some of the most popular games here sell around 60$+tax.. Like Starcraft II for example.. but thats about as high as it goes.

Edit: on closer examination actually alot of games are 65 or even 70$ now..

Not too many games being released get me excited anymore.. the last game I bought was SC2.

Edit again: To give you an idea of prices here: http://www.gamestop.ca/

Thats in CAD, but ours is worth more(barely) than the americans now.

to be frank: voting about a price without even so much as seeing the product is imo unrealistic optimism.

for the engine tester, provided it works without bugs and smooth, id pay 10 €.

generally i can live with some missing features (like online comparing of engines etc.) at the start; but fundamental bugs cause the game to get binned fairly quickly, and the lowest rating possible. if theres a glitch like the occasional transparent wall, ok; but star trek online was ridiculious. broken missions, enemy spawn rates measured in parts of a second; own respawn in the enviroment (like the load carring H-beam of the platform above you) causing the charakter to be stuck.....

well i think in euros; and full price in the stores is including 20% VAT are between 49,99 € and 59,99 €; FOR PC, consoles are usually 10 € more expensive (the same game of course)

I agree you can't really judge without a finished product.

I guess I'm more trying to find out what the expectation is, for example its interesting to note that games are cheaper in most places than in Australia, so if we priced it to Australian prices, everyone else would find it very overpriced.

Also its under the assumption of the final product being good, we can promise it won't be very buggy, but if its fun is for you to decide:P

^^

at 100 $ id never buy a game.

in europe, at least the euro zone, they already increased everything during the switching period to the euro, in austria there was a period where everything had to be priced out in both currencies.

eg.: austria: old currency: Schilling; 13.7603 Schilling = 1 euro*

Album-CD: 199 Schilling

switch: 230 Schilling

now: 16.99 Euro ( = 233 Schilling)

i bought a CD for the old price on the 23rd dec. and couldnt believe my eyes on the 6th jan. in the same store and with the same CD for the new one.....

full price game: 599 to 699 Schilling

now: 49.99 to 59.99 euro ( = 687 to 825 Schilling)

* the . in the schilling is a decimal point, i know im sometimes using the german decimal comma, so just to be sure everyone sees the same value

and i can still remember the 1999 outcry in the german games media about command and conquer for 100 DM. (1.98 DM = 1 Euro) The other games were priced at 80 to 90 DM.

Edit: i write about decimal points, and still used decimal comma *facepalm*

PS: italy had is worse than most. somewhere at about 2k lire where a single euro. think you get your wages and miss three digits, and the rest is cut in half....

Yeah, $100 is crazy, thats why I buy off steam, where most games are quite a lot less than that

Wow...I understand that the Australian prices are much more (I wonder why...), but I'm with Drake in that no one from NA will buy it for 100 US Dollars. Still, I think for 40 is a fair price here. I hope this game doesn't get pirated
