Documents/My Games/Automation/Cars/Models >>> copy the model file
Documents/My Games/Automation/Cars/Trim >>> copy the trim file
Documents/My Games/Automation/Engines (same procedure)

Once you have all 4 files copied, put them in a zip file, then upload attachment. We'll get this sorted once and for all.

This thread is me asking why I get monstrous wheelspin with a 350hp motor.

I'm still thinking your weight distribution is horribly front heavy.

I do not wish to change tires because mounting semi slicks and 305s is a bit overkill for a 40k car.

Open Dif, that might be the issue. Try the other ones and see if they improve the wheel spin.

Electric LSD is a bit overkill in a 40k sports car don't you think? I have tried Viscous LSD but it doesn't help much. I am targeting a 0-60 time of about 5 or less seconds, as well as airfield track time of under 1 minute 28 seconds.

Car is attached.

Re: Newbie Questions

I tried downloading your car and engine files and they're not showing up on my list. (probably to do with the fact we're using two different versions)

Anyway! Please post a screen of the test track tab so I can see the weight distribution.

There is no engine file, we need the engine variant.

Whoops sorry, I am fixing it right now.

@Slim Jim There was an update just yesterday. Are you using the steam version?

Here is the test track stats. Not very appealing is it.

Oh and is it possible to make variants of the car with different bodywork? Whenever I tried making a trim it would lock out body parts and fixtures.

No, not yet. I believe that the ability to add fixtures to trims (for example, a sports trim with front lip, rear wing, and fog lights standard) is a planned feature.

No, it's not possible yet. It will be in the future. (beat 2x before I could post it - posted anyway)

As for the car, you made some curious design choices. :P Are you trying to build an economy car, or a sports car? From what I gather, you have the power to be running at least 1/2 second quicker in 0-60 and the 1/4 mile.

Here are some of the things that are stopping you:
  • open differential
  • medium compound tires
  • ride height too low
  • peak torque too high

Open differentials and medium compound tires are great for economy cars, not so much for sports cars. What ends up happening when you try to build a car with "too many hats", is you end up with something that isn't really good at anything. A more focused sports car would have a limited slip of some kind, and sports compound or semi-slicks. An economy car, too, wouldn't have a 350 horsepower screaming V8. You can't have both without sacrificing acceleration.

The weight distribution is actually very good. However, the ride height so low, it was preventing the necessary weight transfer to keep the rear tires from spinning... which they would do, since they're on medium tires. :P I dropped a tenth of second off the 0-60 just by making the rear springs and dampers a little softer, and raising the ride height.

Finally, the peak torque is WAY too high relative to the gearing. The 1-2 shift puts you at 4,500 rpm, and your peak torque is 6,500 rpm. All of your shifts, in fact, put you well below peak torque which is hurting your acceleration. Modify the engine to make more torque at a lower rpm.

It's a Corvette parody, hence the archaic suspension.

Thank you very much for the help though. :D

That's funny. Is it the latest version? There was an update just yesterday IIRC.

I have followed Slim Jim's advice and now my car goes 0-60 in 5.5, kilometer sprint at 23.9 seconds. Much more tolerable now, it is now on par with early 2000s sports cars. However is there a way to improve MPG? My car is running at the leanest possible settings and still churns out 28 mpg while I saw a guy get 50 mpg on a V8 with not much less power.

Also in improving low end torque, I have no idea how to this aside from reducing the cam profile, which cuts power by a sizable amount. Is there a technique for better low end performance without losing too much power and economy?

Re: Newbie Questions

You sound like you are running a very agressive cam profile.

This is probably part of your fuel consumption problem.

The solution if you want more torque w/o killing power is to make a larger engine with less agressive cams.

Although you seem to be running boost, in that case the solution might be to put a smaller turbo in, although this will definitively reduce max power.

Also, make sure that your cam profile and turbo size are optimised with each other.
