[Revised] The Empire Challenge

1940 - The economy has been hard the past years and you count yourself lucky to still be able to walk up and down the streets. Walking however, is not what you want to be doing. You see people driving up and down the streets and decide today is where it all changes. You call up a mechanic who owes you a favor and tell him what you are looking for:

  • Engine or Car body? Talk to another forum member or have another friend build your engine or car body and use it for the basis of your very first model.
  • Only one car needed for this era

1950 – You sold a few cars you had modified over the last few years and start earning a reputation for yourself. With reputation comes contacts and some of those have agreed to work for you. Word on the streets is you have a clear vision of where you want your company to go from here.

What path will you choose?

  • The average autos – You build cars for the masses, from that knuckle busting construction worker to an underpaid store clerk. Your cars may not sell for gold bars, but you see the potential in mass production for the common people.
  • The luxury autos – Your quality standards are to a point you won’t back away from. So what if your vehicles cost more? It’s a quality of ride and beauty they are buying from you and not the average vehicle you see running up and down the streets.
  • The performance autos – All you think of is the spark of fuel exploding into an enormous amount of pressure screaming out the exhaust pipes as an angelic tone that puts you in a happy place. Your cars may not be the cheapest, they may not have the smoothest ride, but they sure move. Your vehicles aren’t designed to drive down the road, they are designed to experience the road for all it is.
  • Only one car needed this era (you may design a new model or revise the old)

1960 – Your second vehicle was well received and now they know what you’re made of. You’ve gained some more contacts lately, but these have some deep pockets and are interested in investing in your company if you can prove you’ve got the right stuff.

  • Revise your previous model to emphasize your chosen path even more. Build a second car that you feel will knock the socks off of those potential investors.
  • Two cars needed this era

1970 – With the new investors in your corner, you know you’re going to make it now. You deserve an office of your own to break away from the assembly process so you can jot down your ideas and designs while having a nice cup of coffee. It wasn’t long and you had sketches in all corners of the new office, time to pick one.

  • Choose at least one new platform and engine design (the other model may be a new design or just a revision)
  • Two cars are needed this era

1980 – We live in a strange time indeed. Sales exceeded your production capabilities of the older model, however the newest model didn’t go over as well as planned, now customers expect another new model to replace it. These people wouldn’t know a real auto if it bit them in the tail pipe. Maybe in the future people will see how special it really was.

  • You may choose to revise or replace your oldest model, the newest one needs to be replaced along with designing an entirely new model due to demand.
  • Three cars are needed in this era.

1990 – Now that sales have stabilized, you decide to try your hand at another type of auto. Technology has become much better over the last few years and you may be able to effectively produce a vehicle out of your norm that conforms to the path you have chosen.

  • Choose one type of vehicle not currently in your path (excluding exotic) to branch out with. Use it as a replacement for your oldest vehicle (your other two may be redesigned or replaced as you see fit but you are only allowed the one vehicle to be outside of your path)
  • Three cars are needed this era.

2000 – Customers are still on the fence about your branch out vehicle but sales are stable and the rest of the business is doing well. The global oil reserve is showing signs of strain and future car sales may be affected by this. You have devised a plan to increase fuel economy across the board to lessen the blow of an eventual fuel scare.

  • You are to improve fuel mileage by an average of 10% unless the vehicle is already at it’s max mpg as defined by the car list towards the bottom of the post. You may continue to produce your “branch out” vehicle if you choose to do so, otherwise keep to the vehicles within your respective path.
  • Three cars are needed this era.

2010 – The economy was hit hard even with the increased economy of your last models. No more playing around, time to pull out all the stops and build the best machines you can. Will the people be awestricken by your newest line up or will your sales fall to a competitor?

  • The only restrictions for this final era are to build a total of three brand new vehicles as a show of force and staying power to the people. Only build within your originally chosen path.

Paths:

Average: Build within the "budget" or "family" stats provided (when you are allowed three models, you may choose to make that third model of any class, you are not limited to average path cars)
Performance: Only build within the performance stats provided (when you are allowed to build more than one model, you may build one without the hp/kw cap)
Luxury: Only build within the luxury stats provided (when you are allowed to build more than one model, you may build one without the hp/kw cap)

Vehicle Classes: Stats are subject to change due to any balancing issues that may arise. The "x" values will be input when I am able to spend a bit more time testing out different configurations.

Sport
  • high or very high cost
  • no greater than 27mpg/11.4789kpl
  • sportiness min value = x
  • under 1,500-3,800lb/680-1,724kg
  • 650hp/485kw max (really any more than that and it is encroaching on super car territory)

Budget
  • cheap or average cost
  • no less than 25mmpg/10.6286kpl
  • tameness min value = x
  • 2,000-2,999lb/907-1,360kg
  • 200hp/149kw max

Family
  • cheap or average cost
  • no greater than 30mpg/12.7543kpl
  • safety min value = x
  • 2,500-4,000lb/1,134-1,814kg
  • 330hp/246kw max

Luxury
  • average or high cost
  • no greater than 27mpg/11.4789kpl
  • comfort min value = x
  • above 3,000lb/1,361kg
  • 430hp/321kw max

If and when we get these models
Utility (pickup/suv)
  • average or high cost
  • no greater than 25mpg/10.6286kpl
  • safety? min value = x
  • above 3,000lb/1,361kg
  • 420hp/313kw max

Re: Self set challenge

Seems like a fun challenge, I've been tryingoto build evolving engines in my centauri industries thread over in engines, but its gotten bogged down from just reworking all the motors over and over every 4-6 years. I think I'll throw a few together tonight and try this out.

Re: Self set challenge

This will be a fun forum challenge / competition for when the next update is out, in which you get the main car stats for comparison. :)

Okay maybe waiting for the update will be better, I'll keep my fingers crossed that I can shoehorn my '65 440cid into a body. 8-)

Re: Self set challenge

Yea that will make this challenge a lot more organized. I will restructure the idea once the new update is released, but in the meantime leave any suggestions you may have so that once the update is live, we can see what will be viable for the challenge.

Re: Self set challenge

Any guidelines in terms of costs, emissions, economy? Or will it all be user defined?

Thanks for the link, that has helped me flesh out a few ideas.

EDIT: Thanks for the support on this, was the cost values in the video just something you threw together, or was it an actual stat being pulled from the game? If it was a stat, I can modify my above values accordingly and make that a nice definable value for the challenge.

Re: The Empire Challenge

So I have finally gotten some time to kick back and check out the latest patch and holy crap I've been given some ideas. If you are interested in this challenge, keep an eye out for a new revision as soon as I find the time to break away from work (and playing Automation of course) to write it all down. Just something for those interested to think about, I plan to add other paths you could take, of course that will take me a bit longer to bang out the details. In it's simplest form, you would have the freedom to choose to take my "standard" path (which is already outlined for the most part), take the path of a luxury line (e.g. Mercedes, BMW, Bentley, etc.), or the path of pure performance line (e.g. Ferrari, Lamborghini, Vector, etc.). If anyone is interested in play testing the new challenge, hit me up as I would like some honest opinions of how it plays for others.
