Waiting for diesels? WAIT NO MORE

Are you tired of waiting for diesels to be introduced?

Are you fed up with puny torque figures from your petrol engines?

Well we have the engine for you!

Figures: [V3]
Power; 755hp / 563kW @ 4300rpm
Torque; 1738ft-lb / 2356Nm @ 1800rpm

Figures: [V3HR20R [not pictured]]
Power; 865hp / 645kW @ 3900rpm
Torque; 2104ft-lb / 2852Nm @ 1900rpm

Figures: [CXXT Series V20HR1 [not pictured]]
Power; 952hp / 710kW @ 3800rpm
Torque; 2330ft-lb / 3159Nm @ 1900rpm

Image

Now with 30% better emissions than VW diesels!
We are not held responsible for flipped cars, broken suspension, tires, gears, prop shafts, axles, or any other torque related damages, loss of control and or deaths.

On a serious note;
This experimental dive into low end torque from petrol engines has proved that diesel like torque is achievable from a highly strung engine in automation.
The torque figures when ignoring economy and emissions are able to surpass that of common utility application diesel engines.

However having said that, it is important to realize that the practicality of these experimental engines are limited within automation.
The need for high octane fuels, well built bottom ends and tiny turbos make these engines expensive to build, run and maintain.
Along side the fact of the hardly adequate torque band, you have yourself a highly impractical engine.

In the meantime before diesels are introduced into automation, it is nice to know that eye watering torque where needed is deliverable at low RPM.

If any of you would like I can share more information if you would like to make your own.
I will also gladly make smaller variants if any of you would like to see some.

All of the boost!

Its a thing of beauty... shame the transmission wont survive past 1800rpm though :D

Have you designed any 2.0 I4 and/or 3.0 I6 'diesels? If so, would you mind posting them up here for me to have a look ;)

Many thanks.

I indeed do, however the smallest I have made is a 3L inline 6. Trying inline 4 did not yield good results below 3L displacement.

Smaller engines have a harder time spooling turbos, and thus I would not personally build an engine like this under 3L. Even with the pictured engine, as you can see, the turbo does not reach full boost until after 2k rpm.

I have two 3L i6 for you though, one pictured, one not.

Figures: [DXM XXTs6 Series V1R]
Power; 314hp / 234kW @ 5700rpm
Torque; 602ft-lb / 816Nm @ 2200rpm

Figures: [DXM XXTs6 Series V1DF [Not pictured]]
Power; 262hp / 195kW @ 4700rpm
Torque; 560ft-lb / 760Nm @ 2000rpm

Thanks for the reply - That Inline 6 is very impressive!

Re: Waiting for diesels? WAIT NO MORE

the difference between this engines and a Diesel is that a Diesel doesn't have a <35% efficiency.

Re: Waiting for diesels? WAIT NO MORE

I did try to recreate a Cummins ISB 6.7 as best as I can.

Image

Dat efficiency, though. I couldn't EXACTLY recreate the engine because of the limitations of Automation, but it is good, no?

Re: Waiting for diesels? WAIT NO MORE

That 10 liter engine would have a rough time running at 5000 RPM if it were an actual Diesel. The ones I've worked with redlined at around half that.

Re: Waiting for diesels? WAIT NO MORE

Since everybody seems to have a hard time with my sense of humor; Here is a sensible attempt at a diesel-esque petrol engine.

Yes, but I am not about to cut off a perfectly good powerband.
