1996 WABHUBAC [FINI]

The year is 1996, and LaVache is very satisfied with the sales of their 1994 Ramjet. To cash in on the surprise popularity, we have decided that we also want to sell a coupe based on the Ramjet platform and drivetrain. Unfortunately our production lines are already struggling to cope with the demand, and we are still slightly broke from the development of the Ramjet. This is why we'd like to (or rather need to) outsource the design and production of the still-to-be-named Ramjet Coupe to someone else.

Because of this we have decided to run a Competition in order to find a contractor that can take care of the design and production process. We will send every applicant one of the pre-production Ramjets in our warehouses, because a) we can finally get rid of them and b) so the applicants can take them apart, study its design, capture the essence of it and build a prototype of their design on the rolling chassis.

What we are looking for:
We'd like to keep a family resemblance between the cars, your prototype must be instantly recognizeable as a member of the Ramjet family (aka inspired by Aviation), but also embrace the fact that it was the result of a cooperation between your company and our company.
If you want to shorten the chassis for the design, we have no problem with that. But please don't modify the engine and gearbox, yes? Our current reliability record is very good and we want to keep it that way. The End Product should also be affordable to make.
A good name is key to the wallet of the buyer.

Limitations:
-Tech year 1996
-2 door bodies only, no convertibles
-Must use corrosion resistant Steel Ladder Chassis, Panel material is open
-Double Wishbone suspension at the front, Semi trailing arm at the rear
-FR Drivetrain, 4-speed automatic transmission
-Must use a variant of this engine:

(174.83 KiB) Downloaded 371 times

-The pre-production car you can use for studying our design language:
LaVache Ramjet '94.zip
(217.64 KiB) Downloaded 383 times

Send your prototypes to me via PM.
Naming scheme:
LaVache-[your company] (Model)
[whatever name you come up with] Prototype (Trim)

What we'll be judging:
Design, obviously, Our favourite design is going to be produced. But we'll also present all entries at an autoshow and do a voting on the crowd favourite.
We're american, handling is of secondary concern, comfort and straight line speed matter.

I probably didn't phrase that very well, but you can use any body you want as long as you can make it comply with the rules.

Deadline: Sunday, March 13

Entries:

lordvader1 (LaVache-LVC ARPUS Prototype)
TR8R (LaVache-First Order Jetstar Prototype)
thecarlover (LaVache-Solo Scramjet Lux Prototype)

Re: The 1996 "We are broke, help us build a Car" Challenge

so we basically design everything that is not mechanical?
right?

and do we Have to use the prototype, or is it just an example?
if it's just an example, i'm suggesting to also putting a picture of the car on the OP. (and the gearing config)

"The Prototype" is just your design. The other car is for studying our design language (necessary to keep a family connection) and provides a rolling chassis you can build your prototype on (this is basically a paraphrase of the rule set).

This is how it should be geared, if it helps:

This looks like an interesting competition. When's the entry deadline?

So the transmission has to be at 298 and 65, nothing else?

Edit: I can't even get 298, just 294 and 302.

I may be german, but I'm not that anal. Between 295 and 305 is accurate enough.

Ladder chassis in -96? Only vehicles using that in -96 would be pickups or pickup based SUV's.
Not even americans use ladder chassis in normal (new) cars at that point.

I thought the Ford Crown Victoria was ladder chassis right up until it was discontinued, which was some time in the late 00's or early 10's, if I remember correctly.

Cars using a seperate chassis are more common than you'd think.

LVC (lordvader company) took the contract to make the coupe. so what we did it, we took one of the productions cars. we separated the chassis from the body. next thing we did is we sold the body for 5$, then we cut the chassis. to make the newly designed body fit on it. so after fitting the same headlights, taillights, trims, blinkers on it. we bolt together the chassis and our new body. the engine and gearbox is unmodified

First Order Automotive would like to present the LaVache-First Order Jetstar prototype, codenamed FN-2199.

We decided to mock up a new chassis and coupe bosy to house the 375hp LaVache 6V50T3-A50T.
