Re: Hoon Competition (1994)

goddamit.... even after i make an RWD competitor im still not sure if i want to submit the RWD one.

the FWD is almost 6 out of 10 better in some categories
lower weight, higher drivability, better fuel eco (not that this matters), better safety, higher utility and lower price.

but both have low burnouts in favor of everything else....

do i take the blunt penalty of submitting an FWD and hope it makes up on everything else
or forge ahead with the worse RWD..... but have better chance of being at least average score

A quick note: fuel economy affects running costs, and running costs do matter.

Re: Hoon Competition (1994)

A footnote, in case anyone was wondering: the reference car does not count when determining endpoints of ranges. If it, for example, were to have less wheelspin than any real entry, I would edit the wheelspin cell on its line in the spreadsheet to put it in a tie with the minimum among the actual entries.

(Going for 100% transparency with my process here.)

Packbat wrote:I should be clear: the ten criteria listed in the OP, plus Fruinia running costs and total price, are the only factors that go into my scoring spreadsheet. I know sometimes people forget to list all the relevant criteria, but I want to be absolutely clear that that is not the case here. If it isn't listed in the Scoring section of the ruleset, it doesn't affect your score.

In that case, please add Running Costs in Fruinia to the criteria listed in the OP, because currently, I don't see it! (And I was debating whether to go richer on the fuel mix).

Re: Hoon Competition (1994)

I put that information in the text:
Packbat wrote:The final score of a given car is equal to the sum of the values for each criterion minus the running costs in Fruinia and 15% of the target price.* In other words, the net value of the car over and above the cost of ownership.

...but it's not in the bullet list.

...I'll put it in the bullet list.

Edit: If any of you who already submitted had the same confusion, I'll give you an additional free revision.

Re: Hoon Competition (1994)

I did go pretty hard on fuel mixture for my car, not having running costs in mind at all. Even so, I'll leave it as I sent it in because POWAAAH = Wheelspin and wheelspin is good :D

I'm working on something for this challenge. After all, who doesn't like doing burnouts?

I'm near 90% wheelspin, and acceleration is nothing special because of that.

Re: Hoon Competition (1994)

90% wheelspin, Jesus!
I'm at 60% or slightly above, and that's with a 4.8L V8 on 225mm tyres.

Re: Hoon Competition (1994)

What manner of budget are we running to get that into a car?

I feel this whole 1.8L turbo 4 banger is like bringing a potato gun to a bazooka fight  Should I strip the rear seats out and replace the front ones with a bench?

Re: Hoon Competition (1994)

I managed to shoehorn a 3 liter V6 into the budget, in a 4 door car. Still, to use Strop's analogy, if Tom's brought a v8 to the party, and Strop has the turbo 4-cyl, and they're the bazooka and the potato gun respectively, I've shown up with a slingshot.

Re: Hoon Competition (1994)

I got a 5.4L V8 into the car at first, but with the $12,000 limit, I had to cut that out so that wheelspin wasn't effectively the only criteria I filled.

Fun fact: the body I used (the Peugeot hatch) can somehow fit a 10.5L+ V8 in the engine bay, though part of the intake ends up sticking out through the hood.

Re: Hoon Competition (1994)

I'm convinced Strop is still making more power than me, though :D If you're gonna go for a V8, you can't put expensive parts into it, otherwise there's no way you're gonna meet the 12.000$ price limit.
