40s Mid Engined Car

So yeah, got bored and decided to make this (not my model, I only made it mid engined). It's not exactly period correct, because the body only comes into play in 1955, but meh, we're not going for realism here. You could probably fit a 2.Something litre engine depending on what suspension you use and whether you use transverse or longitudinal etc.

Re: 40s Mid Engined Car

I seem to be stuck with a 0 tameness, no matter what engine/transmission combo I put into the car :-S Maybe a mid engine car is too 'new fangled' for the people of 1955

Re: 40s Mid Engined Car

If I bumped the year up to 1960 I am able to get a whopping 10 tameness

Re: 40s Mid Engined Car

Ultra-short MR car with low-tech suspension and crappy tires does that for you.

Re: 40s Mid Engined Car

Yeah even the vanilla cars of 1940 should only get a Max like 5 tameness or so.

Re: 40s Mid Engined Car

Can someone upload a pic? I know you weren't going for realism but we didn't have mid engined production cars until 1965.

Re: 40s Mid Engined Car

It's an MR "hack" of the small sedan.

Exact same model, but with the engine in the back.

This ^
If you wanted to create a Beetle replica (although they have an RR layout and they're 2 door ) now you kinda can!

Re: 40s Mid Engined Car

You can make a pretty quick 'not-beetle' type set up with this! When/if rear engine is ever an option we can worry about being 100% 'authentic'. Until then, I am pretty content with this.

Thanks for the mod. Though I had hoped for a minute you had made something like this:

Re: 40s Mid Engined Car

Haha, sorry if I misled you  This is just a vanilla body. I'll upload a photo so this doesn't happen again in a minute, I had to reinstall photoshop again.

Edit: Photos now in the OP.

Re: 40s Mid Engined Car

Nice work!

I've experimented with mid/rear engine chassis' on front engined body designs as well in the past. But to my mind the chassis setup doesn't work yet on a normal family car because of the setup wich cuases the engine to end up where the back seat would be. I hope the devellopers create a real Rear engine chassis in the future.
