Looks great!

Only move the right end points to x=0 (or 0 in the horizontal axis).

Re: Newbie needs help lol

thanks VMO, any tips on what I could do to fix my issue on the last pic? and how do I move them to zero? I know I need to select them but what do I do after that?

Re: Newbie needs help lol

Well, I cannot see any issue here. It's supposed to look flat at the beginning. Unless you mean it's not blue (in which case you need to assign the grilles material to it.). Or that some edges are not the way they were before (I can't really see that due to edged faces option being off), in which case your grille is too small, and everything needs to be scaled up a bit.

Now, how to move points to x to 0: You select each of the centerline points, look for the X coordinate at the bottom of the window and right-click on the up/down arrows for each of them.

Also, it will help if you turn on edged faces (F4 I believe) so that you can see how the mesh is looking. :)

Is this looking better, I selected each centerline points and set them to 0 but they still are not perfectly sitting at 0...

Re: Newbie needs help lol

See, so far, you've only dragged your points up/down and left/right, that is, in 2 dimensions. That is why it's flat.

as for the center line points not sitting at 0... See, no intersection is just one point. That's why intersections need to be drag selected and not click selected. select the ones that are offset and set them to 0 as well.

Also it looks like I've got it set to shaded viewport, and you've got it set to realistic, that'll look different too.

If you right click on the word "Realistic" in the top corner of the viewport you can change that mode.

Re: Newbie needs help lol

yea I noticed that aftwerwads as well daffy. It didnt make a huge difference though. this was actually the closest to yours. minsu the fact that mine is still flat and yours was 3 dimensional at that point... which I cannot figure out how to do but I think I may have figured it out as I am typing this. is it done with one of the other move hotkeys? cause I noticed in your video that you had another axis you could alter but I cannot figure out how to use it.

Re: Newbie needs help lol

I really urge you to go through the 3dsmax tutorials, they are available from autodesk with all the sample files you need.
They will help you learn how to control 3dsmax. I tried to dive straight in and got myself into a terrible mess, knowing what I wanted to do, but not how.

Most other tutorials I have seen are tips on how to model and assume you know how to control 3ds max, so they will say select this then perform a Y, go into Z mode and then do an X, without explaining how to do those things in detail because of the assumption.

The tutorials helped me a lot.

Re: Newbie needs help lol

If you take a look at my tutorial, I also explain some hot keys and other keys that help you model. I understood plane modelling is not the way to go for you sinc eyou thought it was more difficult. Understandable as everyone has their own thing. I'll be looking around here and see if I can help, but if you want quick replies, please feel free to PM me :)

Re: Newbie needs help lol

oh I wont give up on plane modeling as I have already found another grill where it would be easier to do it that way, for now I am just going to focus on on this style until I can comfortably do it properly
