A matter of fixtures...

Hi all,
I'm here to ask something about 3ds Max.

Let me explain :
I'm editing the grilles .lua files, thus enabling more materials.
Everything is working so far, except for the carbon fiber.
As I see it's a different mesh file, I think it's directly in the mesh's material properties, right ?
But as we only have the Kajira exporters, we can't edit the resulting .kjs files.
So how do I do that ? Could we have an "importer" ? Or can't we get the properties back from it ?
Do we need the original .max meshes then ? Can I get them somehow ?

Of course, you'll get all the planned fixtures when they're done. ;)
But before that, I'll need to find a solution. By the way, should we use ECS_PLASTIC or ECS_STANDARDMAT ?

EDIT : By the way, why are we limited to 12 variants ?

Re: A matter of fixtures...

Yeah, carbon fibre needs a specific material applied in 3ds max.

ECS_PLASTIC will give you a matte plastic finish, ECS_STANDARDMAT will give you a somewhat shiny thing.

Re: A matter of fixtures...

Okay, thanks.
So how do I do that without the .max ?
I suppose you can't give'em away nor make the needed file.
Why is there no Kajira to Max converter ?

Kajira back to max wouldn't really be doable. I might put out more of the grille models, I only did a few to save file size and complexity for folks downloading

Re: A matter of fixtures...

Well then,
maybe we could work together.
I'll finish the .lua files (did up to grille8) and post it here, or PM them to you.

Except for the carbon, everything works fine.
Should I use plastic or standard for the fixtures ?

Re: A matter of fixtures...

As promised, here are the modified files.
Feel free to do whatever you want with them. I'd be glad if it's of any use.
These files are public for experimentation and feedback.
It's not meant to be widely used though, as there are still bugs (shadowing and carbon, due to the missing meshes).

Here they come :
