Re: Green Hell v0.9

At the same time you get into potentially big trouble when it comes to contrast to surrounding colors :) it's not that easy.

Re: Green Hell v0.9

Actually, not really KillRob. The colors differ too much from the rest (which are mainly a different blant type of green and grey) Also, if you work with a small outline along the track with a basic color like black or white, you can isolate the colour to the track only.

Re: Green Hell v0.9

I was thinking about something like this.

Image

A gradient/grade section that show the value in grades or percentage of the road, and another one below with an icon (better without the car) that would show what kind of surface is undergoing (bumply, etc).
I think something simple but easy to read.

Re: Green Hell v0.9

Nice Razyx! Really good alternative if that can be implemented.

The idea behind my height differences was to give players an idea of how flat or hilly a circuit would be, testing their cars under different circumstances.
Your idea is a great addition to the testtrack screen!

Re: Green Hell v0.9

Good stuff, Razyx, that is indeed pretty easy to implement and clear to the user. We'll look into getting something like that into the game.

Really really nice track. It's my new favourite testing track for cars.
Btw. Where did you get all the data from?

Re: Green Hell v0.9

I used AIW data (driving line for AI cars) from an rFactor track mod and plotted the 3d driving line in MATLAB. From there I built the track as close as possible to that. So it should be somewhat accurate although the corner radii seem to be a bit too small at some locations.

Here is my Green Hell run. It is with my Z50di Coupe using an SCCA DI 302 SBC motor.

I got nearly the same result with the Z66di Coupe which has a DI 400 SBC motor. :)

Re: Green Hell v0.9

Anyone noticed how hard it is to get below 8 minutes?
Seat and Renault both have 2.0L turbocharged cars that can crack it.
I used a 400hp mid-engined car with some downforce and sport tyres and stil got barely below 8'30''.

This is mostly down to the simulation, rather than the track itself.
Small things like the AI being rather "timid" around some of the high speed corners, and the fact that the AI takes corners at a constant speed has a massive effect at the end of the long lap.

Re: Green Hell v0.9

Gave it a whack with 'Sport' SUV (well, as close as one could get with current body styles). It was nothing outrageous either. However, I'd say it did pretty decently @ 8 min 46 sec.

Basic stats:
6 sp Manual AWD, Front Longitudal 3.4L NA Inline 6
Aluminum Block/Header, Sport Intake, 2.75 inch Tubular Exhaust w/Straight-through Mufflers and High-flow Cat.
Regular Octane Pump Gas
291 hp @ 7500 RPM
244 ft-lb @ 4800 RPM
Double-wishbone Suspension Front/Rear
300 mm Brakes/4 piston calipers (Default 50 brake setting)
AHS Steel Frame, Aluminum Body, Monocoque assembly
~1440 kg
6.2 L/100km Economy
