Yeah, the ad was brought to court due to accusations of being a bit inappropriate but the court rulings were in our favor since the accusations were due to misinterpretations of the ad. The poor van just wants some cargo in it.

Other than that your cars look great!

Jasså? Det visste jag inte. And I'm glad you like the cars. :)

Seriously, nice van. Quite generic, but who the heck in '89 needed unique van?

Thanks! It's bland and generic due to cost saving reasons. We tried keeping production costs as low as possible so there was no room for typical Midgård designs with chrome detail overload.

1989 Caja Transporter

The Caja Transporter is Midgård Cars' contribution to the transport van market. It's cheap, good looking and has loads of room for cargo. It also features two new engines, the Torque4 four cylinder and Torque6 V6, which are both very cheap engines with loads of torque, as their names imply. Sales were not that high during its release year of 1989 but they started becoming better during the 1990s, so we decided to convert the Caja into a seven seat family van, which was released in 1990. The design is slightly different and it has more chrome details. The popularity kept rising throughout the 1990s, especially in the heavy delivery vehicle market, until production of both the Family and Delivery version ceased in 1998.

Model specifications.
Production years: 1989 – 1998.
Chassis & panels: Corrosion resistant steel ladder chassis and panels.
Suspension setup & engine placement: MacPherson Strut/Solid axle w/ coil springs. Front Transverse engine.

Re: Midgård Cars | 1989 Transport van release - Feedback Wel

I said this car looks generic. Yep, but it looks quite generic for a Midgard when comparising to other company's cars. However it looks pretty unique if it comes to it's real life competitors :)

Generic indeed, to lower costs. And I'm glad you find it to be unique compared to real life competitors :D

1987 Criado PQO concept car

While the recenetly released 1986 Criado 6 was quite successful, Midgård Cars was not pleased with the fact that the most basic Criado 6 cost 11330$. They were also not pleased with the fuel consumption of the Criado, even though it was hard to keep fuel consumption down with carburetted engines, even at low displacements such as 1400cc, compared to fuel injected designs. The design team went back to the drawing board to try to lower production costs and running costs of the car.

First of all, the panels would be made with polymers instead of steel to lower both weight and costs. The car would have three doors instead of five like the Criado 6, and it would only have a four speed gearbox. The car would be named the Criado PQO.

After a design draft was made, the team built one (mostly) functional Criado PQO to see how it would perform. All calculations and estimates were brought to the management office and the numbers were disappointing.

The Criado PQO was only 110$ cheaper than a basic Criado 6 and it was less drivable and comfortable than the Criado 6. Running costs were estimated to be the same as a basic Criado 6 and fuel consumption was slightly higher than the Criado 6.

The CEO and management team decided that the Criado PQO would not go into production since it was "[...] basically a shittier and uglier version of the Criado 6", according to the CEO.

There isn't much information about the Criado PQO concept since most of it is confidential. Some believe that the documentation is confidential because Midgård might revive the Criado PQO project in the future.

Below are pictures of the concept design and parts of the calculation and design documentation that aren't confidential.

Well...We were thinking about it so the passenger version of the Caja transport van got some chrome details. Not as much as our other designs though.

Re: Midgård Cars | 1987 failed hatchback - Feedback Welcome

Well... Hard to believe that in times of Airborne Xy (1980-1991) in 1987 innovative Criado was presented. :D

1991 Matador

Image

The Matador is Midgård Cars' contribution to the SUV market. The design was given an aggressive touch with side exhausts and it has all the chrome you could wish for. It is also one of the most powerful stock SUVs on the market if used with Thor's Hammer (8L V8). With 460 hp, this 2 tonne monster will do 0-100 in just 4.7 seconds but due it having the aerodynamics of a brick, top speed is just 222km/h. While the Matador's purpose isn't to be a dedicated offroader (it doesn't have a manual locker diff), it can handle moderately rough terrain thanks to AWD. Sales were not the best but enough to make it a profitable car.

Model specifications.
Production years: 1991 – 1995.
Chassis & panels: Corrosion resistant steel ladder chassis and panels.
Suspension setup & engine placement: MacPherson Strut/Solid axle w/ coil springs. Front Longitudinal engine.

---------------------------------------

Image
Matador Premium. Starting at 27984$.
Engine specs & drive type: 431 Nm @3700RPM | 309hp @6100RPM | regular unleaded fuel | AWD 51F/49R | 5.4L V8
Driver assistance systems: Power steering, ABS, traction control and electronic stability.
Interior, safety & entertainment: Premium five seat interior and premium cassette player. Advanced 90s safety tech.
Tires, brakes & aerodynamics: Hard long life road tires w/ 17” steel rims, 720mm wheel diameter, 235(f)/245mm(r) tire width. Solid disk brakes. Fully clad undertray.
Gearbox, differential & suspension: Four speed automatic gearbox and viscous LSD. Progressive springs, adaptive dampers and passive swaybars.

Matador Rey (luxury). Starting at 38610$.
Engine specs & drive type: 431 Nm @3700RPM | 309hp @6100RPM | regular unleaded fuel | AWD 51F/49R | 5.4L V8
Driver assistance systems: Power steering, ABS, traction control and electronic stability.
Interior, safety & entertainment: Luxury five seat interior and luxury cassette player. Advanced 90s safety tech.
Tires, brakes & aerodynamics: Hard long life road tires w/ 17” steel rims, 720mm wheel diameter, 235(f)/245mm(r) tire width. Solid disk brakes. Fully clad undertray.
Gearbox, differential & suspension: Four speed automatic gearbox and viscous LSD. Hydropneumatic springs, twin-tube dampers and passive swaybars.

Image
Matador Tors Hammare. Starting at 34344$.
Engine specs & drive type: 645 Nm @3500RPM | 460hp @5900RPM | regular unleaded fuel | AWD 51F/49R | 8L Tors Hammare V8
Driver assistance systems: Power steering, ABS, traction control and electronic stability.
Interior, safety & entertainment: Premium five seat interior and premium cassette player. Advanced 90s safety tech.
Tires, brakes & aerodynamics: Medium compound road tires w/ 17” steel rims, 720mm wheel diameter, 235(f)/255mm(r) tire width. Solid disk brakes. Fully clad undertray.
Gearbox, differential & suspension: Five speed manual gearbox and geared LSD. Progressive springs, adaptive dampers and passive swaybars.

Off topic: I wonder why it says 2 door / 5 seat SUV when the car body clearly has 4 doors.

Product sheet leaked - Early 1993 automotive news article

Image

An anonymous source with a bit of insight sent us a photocopy of a page from an information pamphlet for an upcoming car by Midgård Cars.

While much info isn't given by the product sheet page, some believe that it's the product sheet for a second version of the Criado PQO, a car first presented in 1987 but that never made it into production.
