Re: Need a V8 Engine

I'll toss my hat in the ring, may not be crazy torquey like the others, but it's a nice even power curve and it doesn't cost an arm or a leg either... well for an exotic V8.

Basic Stats:
4.7L 32V DOHC with Dual-head Direct Injection and VVT/VVL
Aluminum-Silicone Block/Head
Forged Steel Crankshaft
I Beam Steel Conrods
Lightweight Forged Piston heads

Design principle: A sporty V8 that can run on mid-grade gasoline to help owners save on gas costs if they choose to go to the track on the weekend. However, it's not a snorting monster and is tame enough for everyday driving.

Re: Need a V8 Engine

Alright while we're sharing...

With this entry I'm keeping initial and service costs down by using MPFI instead of DI. It's a fairly compact 4.6L (a couple ticks smaller and it would be a 4.5). Reasonably low weight, good reliability, and over that magic 30% efficiency mark that was mentioned earlier.

I hope I'm not too late, but I only found this thread last night and remembered my password just now. Anyway, here's my engine, let me know if you want it.

Re: Need a V8 Engine

I personally just look up the specs of a real proven v8 like a chevy 350. You can find the bore/stroke anywhere from wikipedia to forums. Build it real basic out of cast iron at first, get it running reliably then free up the exhaust and start cranking ponies out of it.

Re: Need a V8 Engine

I thought I'd give it a shot, too:

Yes, it is a bit heavier than the other engines in this thread, and it falls a little short of the power target, but on the other hand the torque curve is more suitable for a muscle car and the power is also more accessible since peak power comes a little earlier than the redline.

Re: Need a V8 Engine

This is a modernized version of one of my 1950s era designs, featuring electronic fuel injection, variable valve lift, and variable valve timing. It's also heavily tuned of course. Otherwise, it's still a design from the Golden Age of muscle cars. It could be rebuilt with modern materials if desired. Also, the engine runs on super unleaded gasoline, so it can use standard gas stations.

Re: Need a V8 Engine

just something I threw together real quick. It's crossplane because a flatplane muscle car is a silly idea. I went nasp and kept the displacement low because it felt right

you can switch to titanium connecting rod and get rid of that message but it only adds 8 to the reliability and throws it $300 over budget

Re: Need a V8 Engine

Why is there no respect for big crossplanes? Here's my chrome plated 9.5 liter Brimstone. Over 31% economy, over 600ft-lbs of low end torque, and only about 500 pounds.

Re: Need a V8 Engine

If I was going big, I was going bold. Had goldplated been a option I'd have picked that.

This is my DuraTorq 5.0, a high quality engine witch makes it expensive but with abilitys to save cash :-)

I´m more into small engines so a V8 with special stats is somewhat new to me. So have a look at my design an please feel free to give some feedback :-D
