Little 1.8L engine

Hi guys,

Im playing the demo atm, and this is my first engine. This was made with small Sport Hatchback in mind (Civic type R, Clio Sport, etc).

The engine was built with costs and man hours in mind and also with efficiency, MTBF, and fuel RON.

This is my first attempt so all the opinions and tips are apreciated :)

Re: Little 1.8L engine

This engine looks rather good actually, it is pretty cheap and is economical. However, to improve usability, you could go for a VVL setup, that would give you better low-end power

Re: Little 1.8L engine

I think it is a pretty good engine! It's not super efficient, but certainly plenty of power. :) You should see if you can get another 10% efficiency without losing more than 10% power.

Re: Little 1.8L engine

BTW all the quality slide are at "0".

The engine have VVT and VVL. I will try to up the effeciency without loosing to much power.

Thanks guys.

New revision engine:

But only managed to do this playing a bit with the bore and stroke, but its still a 1.8L, and changing to DI. With MPI the maximum efficiency i got was 26% but maintaining the 220+HP.

With DI i manage a better efficiency (around 32%) but only with 190HP+-

They are both very good engines. Look forward to seeing more engines and cars from you!

Re: Little 1.8L engine

They look like nice engines, just don't rely on the race exhaust you used in the revised version, it's not a mass produce-able option.

Re: Little 1.8L engine

Thanks for the support guys.

I think i can manage the same specs without the exhaust. I will open a new thread where i will post all my engine.

The first engine was installed on the demo hatchback, longitudinal RWD. It came out with 49,7F / 50.3R height destribution, and a top speed of 273Km/h, around 5sec 0-100kmh and 13+ sec quarter mile. But i straggle a bit with the car specs, i enjoy much more building engines.

If someone need a new engine and dont want to build it for whatever reason just give me the spec your looking on an engine and i will come up with something (just remmber for now i only have the demo version). I just wanna build stuff so i can improve and have fun :)

Re: Little 1.8L engine

I'm actually quite impressed.
On a lightweight car 21% economy isn't even that bad, although you should strive for something like 23-25% atleast. It depends on the car though (aerodynamics, gearing, weight, etc. etc).
I like the engine before the revision more by the way, just bear in mind that 51 man hours (/ production units as they'll be called in the next update) is a pretty tough build for a cheap sportscar engine, but it's very cheap in material, so that compensates.
One thing to note though is that my guess is that the tameness of the engine is pretty shabby as N/A, but that's more of something advanced. You basically want your torque so your engine power is as linear as possible. In N/A engines you can achieve this by playing with your ignition timing and cam.
All in all, surprisingly good for a first attempt.

Also 50/50 weight distribution, nice job.

I'm planning to make a lightweight MR/MA car as soon as the update comes, and I'm missing a light N/A engine for it, if you want you can give that a shot.
I'm looking for:
    - 300-350 hp
    - as light as possible
    - as cheap as possible
    - 22-24% economy (preferably 24%)
    - less than 55 manhours
    (- as tame as possible)

Re: Little 1.8L engine

let's see *adjust glasses*relatively cheap to build, quite powerful for its size, efficient, low service costs, smooth, decently responsive, reliable, quiet. I tip my hat to you, you made a wonderful engine while balancing several parameters without really sacrificing anything.

Re: Little 1.8L engine

For a low-cost engine, Premium Unleaded might not be the best choice. But who am I to be talking, it is an overall fantastic engine.

Re: Little 1.8L engine

Agreed, if I had an engine like this in my car, I would be glad to put in 95RON, heck, I'd probably insist on using 98RON. Then again, petrol is expensive in Australia no matter what it is, and you can find 98 just as easily as you can find 95, it's regular 91 that's hard to get these days. And I'm staying the hell away from that E10 stuff.
