can anyone build anything close to the specs seen here? .. personally i've managed to hit both the HP figure and the torque figure, but never both at the same time, or anything close to it.. HALP!

Re: Ferrari Dino F120A (F40 engine)

its a tricky engine to build because you have to find out the values for the size of the turbo chargers used on this engine and thats pretty tricky I tried to build this engine once...I didnt get the values I wanted...but I think Absolution could very well do this engine...but I will give it a crack...

Re: Ferrari Dino F120A (F40 engine)

yeah Turbos are a bit of a dark art...I tried building a 2002 Saab 9-5 Hot Aero Estate engine right so its an I4 with a Garrett Turbo on it and I cant get the power figures to match I go too high or all the power is right at the redline of 6000rpm when max power is suppose to be obtained at 5,500rpm...Turbos confuse me...but I can get them to work...they are the BAAAANE of my existance!

Re: Ferrari Dino F120A (F40 engine)

spend a bit of time with this, closest i got was 490hp@ 7100 and 560@ 4200, but that was with BB turbo's at factory specs and quality set to max, with normal turbo's it didnt get boost before 5k at the factory specs
But this could be done with a better turbo manifold, have tried replicating a couple of my former engines, and its pretty clear that the manifold doesnt have any flow at all :)

what do you mean by a better Turbo Manifold? do you mean like all the calculations done with it have to be redone or something?

Re: Ferrari Dino F120A (F40 engine)

One with much better flow, the manifold in the game right now is like a standard manifold on any low performance turbo car, "made down to a price", with a engine like this you need a special manifold with pretty high flow, to ensure that the turbo lag isnt to big. The calculations on the manifold in the game is somewhat good as they are.
And i dont really know if we need a better one, because none of big companies use anything else than low flow cast manifolds because of the manifactoring price of a welded one

Hope that makes a bit of sence, my english is pretty rusty these days :)

Re: Ferrari Dino F120A (F40 engine)

i believe that devs also said that the current shortcast option also physically limits the turbo size more than another header type would..

nice to see another Dane on the boards..

Re: Ferrari Dino F120A (F40 engine)

I made this engine 8 months ago...

Take a look: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid ... =1&theater

A F40 tutorial:
Automation build: 199. Year 1992. Quality 15 for all options.
V flatplane, 8 cylinder, Aluminum, Bore 82, Stroke 69.5, Billet Steel, I Bwam Steel, Lightweith Forged.
Dual overhead cam, 4 valves, Aluminium, 7.7:1, Cam profile 63, VVT none, VVL none.
Turbo charger, Twin Turbo, Ball bearing, Water-air large, Compressor 45.3 mm, Turbine 39.9 mm, AR Ratio 1.40, Max Boost 1.10 bar.
Injection, Multi point EFI, Single, Race, Fuel 98, Mixture 12.4:1, Ignition 96, RPM Limit 8,000.
Short cast, Dual exausts, No valve, 3,75", None, Straight Throught.

Testing Results:
2936 cc.
478 hp @ 7,000
543 Nm @ 4,700

V8
AlSi Block & Head
DOHC 4Valve
Bore 82mm Stroke 69.5mm
No VVL
Billet Steel crank
I Beam Titanium Conrods
Forged Pistons
Compression 12.3:1 (can't seem to get it right at the actual 7.7:1)
Cam Profile 61
VVT - All Cams
Twin Turbo
Ball Bearings
Large Water-Air Intercooler
47.0mm Compressor
61.0mm Turbine
AR Ratio 0.67
1.11 Bar boost (16.0PSI, as real)
Direct Injection, Throttle Per Cylinder, Race Intake, Ultimate - 100.0
Fuel Mixture 11.0:1
Ignition Timing 88
RPM Limit 7000
Dual Exhaust
Bypass Valves
3.50 inch Exhaust diameter
Catalytic Converter - Up to you, depends if it's the F120A or the F120D variant
Straight through on both mufflers, although no affect on power if you like things noisy leave them off
All Qualities +15
478 hp @7000rpm
424 ft-lb @4000rpm

Will work on getting the compression ratio right but have a play yourselves if you can beat me to it ☺

Re: Ferrari Dino F120A (F40 engine)

I remember seeing a redline of 7750, actually - e.g. here (although that site quotes 7.8:1 compression ratio instead of 7.7:1).

Re: Ferrari Dino F120A (F40 engine)

Yeah the site I used didn't list a redline, so I used the dyno graph. It also listed compression as 7.8:1. It also listed 471hp@7000 and 426tq@4000. I tried this engine and came close. I couldn't get the torque high enough at 4000, however. I managed 471hp@7000 and ~400tq@4100. Had to use race intake and very high quality all around to achieve this, however. Fuel was 11.5 I think. I'd have to look again. Turbo was pretty small-ish. Anything bigger pushed the tq over 5k rpm. 42.5/47.0 or something with .99 AR and 1.11bar of boost using 8.5-ish:1 compression ratio. At 7.8 or 7.7 it is impossible to reproduce, at least in 1992.

Re: Ferrari Dino F120A (F40 engine)

Mm, I had a similar experience - with a 7.7:1 compression ratio and 16 psi of turbo I couldn't recreate the performance numbers whatever I did. I was around 340 hp and 380 N-m and running an octane of 86 RON trying to make it happen.
