Website Downtime

We apologize for the outages, I hope you are not as angry as me. We realise these outages effect your ability to play Automation, we will look at improving the launcher shortly.

We are hosted with dreamhost.com, you can imagine what my opinion of them is now? Not very high (is the polite way to put it, ask Andrew/Daffy about what I was actually saying.)

The very first downtime was our fault, the VPS was not configured with enough RAM (Solved in a couple of minutes, no real worries). The other outages have been mysql server issue, and 2 DDoS attacks on one of their data centres. Why one of the largest hosting providers in the world cannot deal with DDoS attacks quickly and promptly is beyond me.

We were previously with justhost, super cheap, super cheery. Therefore it was a bit slow, had some downtime issues and wasn’t going to cope well with the public launch. So with the new website design, we changed providers to someone who looked more reliable, had heard good things about and costs more, but that is because you should be getting better service.

So with both of these outages happening on critical days, the first day of the game being available, and then the day we get posted to Autoblog (woohoo!), dreamhost has outages, and has lost my patronage. We will be moving provider at some point in the future, and we will try to mitigate the disruption as much as possible.

Re: Website Downtime

I personally have a reseller account with Hostgator and they've been great for me. I have 8 websites hosted on my service, rock solid hosting and scalable bandwidth.
If you did consider, I would suggest a Dedicated server instead of a shared. Shareds are nice, but dedicated is what you need.

Let me know if I can help in any way..
