Help us out: The massive engine specs quest!

Updated on May 1st, 2012

We're soon going through another round of testing the engine designer after a major revamp of the calculations
to ensure it's producing accurate figures for real world engines. And as such, we could use your help!

The main obstacle to testing lots of engines, is finding all the specifications to test against, we could (and have)
spend DAYS researching specs, where our time could be better spent working on the actual game development and
getting things done!

We need you guys to gather specs for as many engines as possible, so we can test them and make sure automation
can replicate them accurately. Currently we need Naturally Aspirated Inline-4 engines and Naturally Aspirated V8s
made between 1946 and 2012, but in the future we will need other types of engine and we will let you know.

Also, note that as well as all the engines we have listed already, the intention is for you to add whatever engines you
can find specs for!

If you want to help out, starting filling out the below spreadsheet, which already has some basic data for a bunch of
engines in it. Everyone has access to edit, no account or login is required. If you aren't sure of a specification, just
put in a question mark and someone else might be able to find it, or we will take a guess. If you see anything
incorrect, feel free to correct / edit it. A good start for finding basic specs is http://www.carfolio.com/
but for some of the more In depth technical detail, some more arcane sources may be required.

And here is the link:
EDIT - We've got enough specs now! :)

I'm a very fan of cars, but unfortunately I'm not so expert to say so much about the engines :(
But I tried, I searched in the Google and I put what I can (I put a Honda engine and some informations for the Chevy 302).
About this game, it will be an awesore!!!
I'm going to try to buy it, but I'm from Brazil and it can be some difficult to me.
Keep developing!

Someone should add the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine. I'm pretty sure it's quite easy to find the specs of the engine.

Hi all

I'm the webmaster of Carfolio.com and wanted to point out that autofiles.org is just an unauthorised snapshot of my data at some point in the past.

If there's anything I can do to the spec sheets to help you guys out, please let me know. I update the database almost daily, so things should be reasonably fresh in there ;-)

Thanks

Cheers

Zak

(Can't seem to find the "edit post" option) Just found it :?

Just FYI, you can filter cars by the exact thing you need on Carfolio.com already:
http://www.carfolio.com/search/results/ ... 0&offset=0

This is just basically an advanced search with start year = 1946, cylinder number set to 4 and cylinder layout set to "inline". I hope that's a help.

Added some older engines seeing as how most of them were more current.
I like this idea for getting the community involved. helps us help you get the game done faster!
and we get more of what we would like to see put in the game.

Great job guys. can't wait for the demo

Great! Interesting way to get help from the community.

I've added most of the available info for the Aircooled engines from Volkswagen (from the 1100 to the 1600). All of the info is backed by the service manuals of several Volkswagen cars that are available at thesamba.com (one of the manuals I got the info from is the one I shared with the webmaster).

Hope this helps.

Welcome to our forums!

I've removed that other link, no use supporting someone's website who is just copying your work.

Thanks for the tip on the filtering, that should help people find what we need

Great, happy to help. If there's any other sort of thing that might help, please let me know and I can put it into the interface. Maybe search by bore & stroke or engine code or something? Not exactly sure what it is you need in terms of finding info, but very happy to make your task easier if I can!
