(BTW, only turbos are "twin scroll", you probably mean screw type supercharger.)

My Ford Transit (2014, US) had a sucky 2.0L gasoline engine. If it was ecoboost (not sure, it didn't say), then ecoboost sucks. If it wasn't ecoboost, then it should have been, because it sucked. 70mph on the freeway going up a hill, down to 45mph by the top of the hill with the accelerator on the floor.

Back on topic, A Ford GT should be a V8. Or at least offer a V8. Not offering one is kind of like the 3rd gen Camaro/Firebird and the Mustang of the same era offering a base model I4 with 39hp. It's a damn ponycar. Build it like one! I haven't read much about this V6, or heard clips of it's exhaust. Maybe it's a good thing, but....'Murica! V8! V6 is for grocery getters, not supercars! F*** you, Nissan! hahaha

And there are scroll superchargers. Used in the Gt40 even (not the Ford one though). Made by VW in the 80's.

Personally I have no attachment to V8s whatsoever, so I'm not particularly bothered by this powerplant change; I wouldn't care if it was a twin-turbo V6 or a plug-in hybrid* as long as it's sufficiently exciting when you put your foot down.

Even the base model Civic is moving to a 1.5L turbo powerplant, the Levorg is available with a 1.6L turbo flat 4, and Ford's EcoBoost units have been around for a few years now. Downsized turbocharged engines are clearly here to stay.

*if Chevrolet wants to build a plug-in hybrid Corvette I'll actually be able to drive it without glaring at the fuel gauge on a frequent basis...

Because the original was a NA, and the 2005 was a supercharged.

Because the original was a 289cid V8, the Mark 4 was a 427cid V8, and the 2005 version was a 330cid V8.

I haven't heard it wide open yet, but from the few auto show clips of it running it sounds boosty angry, like a hive of turbine powered hornets.

It's not that a V6 is superior or that V8s in general are archaic - it's about which particular engine generation and family we're talking about.
There aren't many V8s in Ford's future model lineup which makes the V6 a smart move. Even if this is a supercar, it needs to share components
with more mainstream models, or the costs will get out of hand (and the last GT was quite fairly priced for its performance).
With today's turbo and EFI technology + all that hybrid stuff, you don't need to build a bespoke V8 to get the required power, so it's
smarter to use and existing engine design that will still be in productiop for the years to come. Modifying an engine will cost the
manufacturer much less than a completely new one. Also, with turbos rather than superchargers, let alone naturally aspirated, the engine
will be much more efficient with fuel - which was always criticized with the last generation GT.
