What is it: Commuter Cars Tango

Where was it: Berkeley, California

Why is it interesting:
Its an electric car with over 1000lb-ft of torque. :o Despite its funny appearance its actually a pretty serious performance car. 0-60mph in 4 seconds, 12 second quarter miles, and a .9g on the skidpad.

Yes, that's my goofy ass trying to look a wide as possible.

That is soo weird. It looks like they took a normal car, cut a strip of metal out of the middle, and then welded it back together.

Conan, this is your doing isn't it!?!

But in all seriousness, I will never like performance electric cars for one reason: They make no noise, or atleast no good sounding noise. :|

They are okay for commuter cars though, but not with that kinda power. I forsee alot of people killing themselves in those things for underestimating the acceleration. It all seems kinda ridiculous to me.. why have that much power when surely they could improve the range instead?

Yeah, its my understanding that the area below the doors is all batteries so that it has a really low CG. I think that's a big part of why its supposed to handle so good.

I dunno though, It seems pretty useless. Too small to fit much in it, the range isn't exactly spectacular either if you have a heavy right foot..

I have been thinking about what the use of this car is and I have come to a realisation. This car is only really good for one thing: Trolling owners of supercars. Imagine pulling up next to that tiny, ugly, small little econobox looking thing in a Ferrari and the guy asking you to race... Then as the light turns green hes gone.

Problem Ferrari Owners?

Tango electric car is safe for commuters. Electric cars should be driven at low speed and short distances. The cost of most of it is still outside the reach of the average U.S. consumer. However, as technology improves, the cost is sure to drop. For all the buzz surrounding vehicles like the Chevy Volt, there are other EV options that provide much greater performance, if not a lower price. The Tango EV from Commuter Vehicles is just such an example. It boasts the speed and agility of a motorbike, also as the type of security typically only found in a top-flight sports vehicle.

Drake, it's a commuter car. The whole point of the thing is to be small because it only needs to move 1 person from their home to their work. If it can carry 1 person and their lunch box in an efficient manner it's done what it has to do.
It's basically a motorbike with some training wheels, a roof and a seatbelt.

It'd work fine for me, because if I have to deliver something for work, I'm not using my own (admittedly tiny car), I'm using the 3.5 tonne L2H2 MB Sprinter from my boss. Purpose built commuter cars aren't meant to take more than 1 person a relatively short distance.

It's basically the same idea as a Piaggio MP3 LT (3-wheeled scooter with enough track width to allow a car-license to drive it) or a Renault Twizy. They're very niche vehicles with little day-to-day practicality, but the thing they were designed to do, they do uncompromisingly well, better than a more all-round car could ever hope to.

The problem with electric cars is that many pedestrians will be killed.
They will not hear the car coming and just walk out in the road.

It's already a problem with all hybrids in major cities.

Juno... your question was valid, your reply above on the other hand in the category of "ohh no, Killrob is going to ban my ass again", i.e. redundant. Stop it.

1300 nm from that little car ?? maybe at the wheels. the wiring required for that kind of amps would be as thick as my hand.
