Not quite a Volvo...

So, I had £500 lying around (should've been spent on a new graphics card... idiot me) and I decided to put it to use. Went on the interwebs, found a car I liked and decided to check it out. For £500 I wasn't exactly expecting a mint condition car, and I'd say I got my money's worth.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you my 2 Litre 1998 Hyundai Coupe.
Image
It's full of scratches and stuff, the paint gets progressively worse as you go towards the rear end but everything works. It doesn't work well, but it works.
Steering makes odd clunks, there's a distinct burning smell when it runs and the fan belt is super loose. Nothing that can't be fixed when I have time.
While I don't have more pictures, I do have a video of a nice rev to 4 or 5 thousand RPM. (Ignore the sound in the middle, it's the person recording and not my car)

Nice car!

Probably will take years to die. (Asian cars never die! )

Re: Not quite a Volvo...

The engine is pretty much mint, as it's only got 76k on it. The body and the running gear though... that's another story.

Re: Not quite a Volvo...

Cool, congrats! That's a really good deal. Any other plans for it besides just fixing it up?

I should hope so, for reasons which will become apparent tomorrow. :P

I had '01, hope yours is better maintained than mine was. It was fun while it ran though.

Re: Not quite a Volvo...

Not sure what I'm gonna do to it at this stage. Want to get about a year of driving it and then we'll see what happens from there.

I can guarantee you that this car was not nearly as well maintained as yours, the bodywork is terrible all around. It's a one owner car but I think the "dealer" that I bought it from hooned it around and went on frequent joyrides with it.

Well, from the sounds of it, the first item on the list: CV joints and bearings and shocks. Coz you really don't any of those cracking on you when you take a bump

Re: Not quite a Volvo...

My first 3 months involved new tires, new rear calipers, new tie rod ends, and a new charcoal canister along with a cleaning of the evap system as the old canister disintegrated and clogged the lines with charcoal pellets.

Re: Not quite a Volvo...

This one has had a load of MOT advisories. The ones from the last MOT were about the anti-roll bar needing new bushings and two of my tyres being worn close to the legal limit.
