Subaru Impreza GTT (GC8 WRX)

Hey guys, this is my 2000 Subaru Impreza GTT 2.0 Turbo

I live in Holland where this type is called a GTT but in other countries also known as GC8 or WRX.

Changes:
2.5" Decat downpipe
2.5" Decat midpipe
Raceland Muffler with valve system
Silicon Turbo Hoses
To be done:
TD05 Turbo
Walbro pump
New Spark plugs
ECU Tuning

Running at 219HP which is stock to this engine but aiming at 320HP after ECU Tuning.

Mounted a Raceland muffler with a valve system in it which i think is the best thing ever made, it allows you to open a valve for a stright pipe effect but can be closed to have the exhaust gasses to be rerouted through the muffler which results in a very silent car for MOT  but still be able to have the performance if needed. and ofcourse it still looks good without having any weird side pipes under the car.

Here are some pictures:
When i bought it:

Agreed, they look more aggressive and chunky than any of the new ones have quite managed since.

Re: Subaru Impreza GTT (GC8 WRX)

Hehe, thats pretty much the reason why i got this car instead of waiting and get a newer model :)
Or it has to be a 2011 model, which is also nice but a little above my budget, starting at 50 to 70k euro... :(
Also the sound that the Flat 4 engine produces sounds like music in the ears :) alright exept for the 1936 Fairbanks Morse :D but it doesnt really fit into a car lol

Re: Subaru Impreza GTT (GC8 WRX)

Love it :D Picked up an Impreza wagon about 3 months ago - had been looking at GC8s but needed something a little more tolerant of the poor quality (95ron) fuel in these parts so ended up with a GG wrx instead...

Heading towards a mild stage 1 tune along the lines you've gone though i'll likely keep the TD04 turbo a while yet and do some suspension upgrades first.

Interesting to read your positive feedback about the varex muffler valve, tempted to try one when I complete the decat as I suspect my neighbours may not love the sound of me heading to work at 5am. How anyone could fail to love the flat 4 burble is beyond me... :D

Do you adjust this exhaust with some sort of 'tuner' inside the car?

Tried to run on 95ron for some time, but it really needs tune for it. stock its tuned to 95/98 but runs way better on ron98, much smoother...
For every other fuel you need tuning on GC8 before it will run smoothly.

I the meantime i have fitted a TD05 turbo because i got one offered cheap, difference is very big but the ECU is not really happy about it.
Need to step off the gas a bit or just try to keep the Turbo pressure under 0.9bar, when full throttle it goes to ~1.5bar after goes steady on 1.1bar which is a little too much for the EJ205 block.
Still need to test it on Dyno :) , first ECU 8-)

Yea, exact same problem here. after i drive out of the street i got the remote control in my hands :P
Also very handy in parking garages where the exhaust sounds like thunder and back-fire sounds like C4 dynamite, fun when empty but not when surrounded by 1000 people and get stopped after every 5 meters because they want you to smell their fear...

WizzyThaMan wrote:Do you adjust this exhaust with some sort of 'tuner' inside the car?

The exhaust is controlled by a remote control, looks like a door control.
My exhaust, the Raceland, has 4 different stages. Closed, Closed-Half, Half-Open and Open.
Got mine often on Closed-Half, same sound as open but way more silenced, just enough to get the sound but be able to drive around in streets and parking garages.
The Varex can be adjusted to whatever needs, cool, but downside is you can never get it to close just enough to get the loudness you want 2 times in a row.
The image below shows the system, the yallow/red connector goes to the exhaust through the trunk.
