Re: My daily and the weekend toy - warning, get coffee. And

~350bhp initially is the aim, there's enough flow capacity in the filter/cooler and charger to go past 500bhp if required, but I think the transaxle would be in pieces by then.

Nope, it's not running yet, still waiting on bits for the plumbing and I need to finish the wiring off.

Re: My daily and the weekend toy - warning, get coffee. And

Originally it had a ~90hp VW aircooled engine in, suspension that was about half as good and shite tyres, so it'll be rather more! :D

Re: My daily and the weekend toy - warning, get coffee. And

with a supercharged Honda VTEC engine in it I guess about 140mph+ depends on weight and stuff

Re: My daily and the weekend toy - warning, get coffee. And

It's geared to top out at ~130mph. If I fit the shorter ratios, about 115.

Re: My daily and the weekend toy - warning, get coffee. And

not bad for a rough guess I have to say but I guess you want all that juicy suckling torque to be available on Rally spec gear ratios if that world rally spec exists haha

Re: My daily and the weekend toy - warning, get coffee. And

Well, the aim is to have a choice of two gears which the car will pull well in for any given corner - as the conditions change so much from one run to the next you might find a corner you were changing down to 2nd for is suddenly better in 3rd because it's so slippery you can't put the power down anyway, or one you were taking in 3rd has been dug out in the middle and the car sinks into the earth (it takes SERIOUS power to shift a car even when it's only sunk a couple of inches into some mud) and 2nd would be better.

In either case a gearchange in the middle of the corner may be the worst thing as you will loose momentum for half a second, so having ratios and a spread of torque wide enough that it can manage in either gear, whilst it may cost you a tiny bit of outright pace on the smooth stuff, can easy gain seconds per corner when the going gets tricky.

Re: My daily and the weekend toy - warning, get coffee. And

No.

A nice sequential 6 speed gearbox would, but the price is about the same as it cost for the entire car :D

Re: My daily and the weekend toy - warning, get coffee. And

did a bit of research into what I said and that gearbox I said doesnt exist but yeah a 6 speed sequential would be pretty awesome but the cost would make you think again about it...

Re: My daily and the weekend toy - warning, get coffee. And

£12,000 for one for this, or £8000 for a 5 speed that's not as strong....plus £1000 for the LSD, and another few hundred for the gearlinkages.......
