My Lincolns!

Both are 1997 Mark VIIIs. The "Silver Bullet" is basically stock, save glasspack mufflers welded on the factory tips. It ran a best 15.37 @ 92.67 mph in the 1/4 mile. The "Incredible Hulk" has a few more tweaks... 4.10 gears, 3600 stall converter, Trac-Lok, built transmission (550hp), muffler deletes (factory tips!), and a tune. It ran a best 14.397 @ 95.92 mph. I know the green one has more in it. Just needs drag radials and better air (the density altitude was around 1,200 ft at the time). :D

Very nice lincolns. I too am in NY and have a 1998 Mark VIII LSC. It's the second i've owned. I previously had a 1997 LSC that lived a long prosperous life up to 170,000 miles before i overheated it and developed a rod knock. Now that I know this forum is here I'll make a thread detailing my rides.

Hey gtdriver, thanks! Nice to see another Mark owner on the board. :D I belong to a club specifically for these cars (I'll send you a PM with the details). I was going to say you should post up pictures of yours, but I saw your thread.

A few more pics I found...

I bought the "Octastar" wheels for the silver bullet a few months after I bought the car, so this picture is around 4 years old.

So I took my Lean, Mean, & Evergreen Mark VIII out to the track today. Didn't do that well (ZERO traction off-the-line)...but I had a good time nevertheless! The video is of my last (and best) run of the day. Runs 1 and 2 were with 35psi in the rear tires... 3 & 4, I dropped it to 25psi.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8QiIF6WGFg

Here's the breakdown of the day:

Run1
R/T: .117
60': 2.556 <<< massive wheelspin, had to pedal it
330: 6.636
1/8: 9.92
MPH: 75.65
1000: 12.716
1/4: 15.092
MPH: 93.02

Run2:
R/T: .092
60': 2.31 <<< some wheelspin, but not as bad - just enough to kill the time
330: 6.28
1/8: 9.52
MPH: 76.18
1000: 12.304
1/4: 14.678
MPH: 93.10

Run3:
R/T: .031 <<< quickest reaction time of the day
60': 2.295 <<< still spinning, but tried *really* hard not to... should be running 2.0
330: 6.338
1/8: 9.616
MPH: 75.44
1000: 12.420
1/4: 14.811
MPH: 94.28 <<< best trap speed of the day

Run4:
R/T: -.028 <<< red light!!!
60': 2.248 <<< best 60' time of the day, still spun
330: 6.222
1/8: 9.471
MPH: 76.14
1000: 12.258
1/4: 14.632 <<< best ET of the day
MPH: 93.12

Very nice Lincolns, had no idea they were so quick! Love the way those tail lights look at night. You just don't see these too much where I live, they look so damn exotic. What do you think of the new Lincoln? 300hp V6... yikes.

Hey Nick, thanks for the compliments! :D They definitely are sleepers that's for sure.

As for the new MKZ, I really like them. I think Lincoln is on the right track with their new design direction and I'm excited to see what other cars they have coming out in the next few years. Personally, I'd like to see them make a new 2-door luxury sport coupe... but I know they're not going to take any major risks unless the new stuff sells well. So although I'd be happy to have a 300hp V6 MKZ, I'm still waiting for my 440hp Boss 302-powered, "Mark 9" (if they ever decide to make something like that). It'll probably happen sooner in Automation than it will in real life. LOL

By the way, I actually got a chance to drive an Impala SS a few years back (I think it was an 06, if I remember correctly). That LS4 is a beast!!!

Ouch, selling must have hurt, got plans for what you're getting next?

It did sting a bit, I must admit. But between the club I belonged to being disbanded, and the increasingly frequent mechanical & electrical issues, I just lost interest - and patience.

I was suppose to look at an '01 Saab 9-5 Aero 5spd, silver, on Sunday. But the seller and I had difficulty accommodating each other's schedules. So I went to a dealer instead, test drove an '06 Honda Accord Coupe, V6 6-speed. I liked it enough for me to leave a deposit, but there's no guarantee that it'll be my next car.

I just want something fun-to-drive, manual gearbox, fast, and reliable ($9k max). The hunt continues!!! (Open to suggestions)

I don't know why but personally these are some of the best looking cars ever.

If i get the money i want to buy one of these and tune it so that it has a more economical and better performing engine.
(but not externally at all it's already perfect)

Thanks dude! Styling was definitely one of the main reasons that pulled me towards these cars (especially, the neon taillight). I swore I'd never buy another automatic after driving my 5-speed Taurus SHO, but I loved these cars so much, I sacrificed 8 years of manual car ownership just to keep them LOL.

My "Lincoln story" is certainly not over yet. I do plan on buying another one eventually, but NOT as a daily driver. That's not to say they can't be driven daily. I just think they're better appreciated as occasional use or show cars.

Luckily for you, the used car market has not been kind to the Mark VIII. :P So they can be bought for comparatively small sums of money, even in good condition. More economical and better performing engine = Coyote swap. Good luck!

PS: By Wednesday, I will have started a new thread... I'm almost finished closing the deal on my next ride!
