Tips for making the Seishido logo?

My company, Seishido, is soon getting a full story, and it needs a sweet logo too, so, does anyone have useful tips or programs or whatever to make a decent logo fairly easily?

I currently got Inkscape, GIMP and my imagination

I've used inkscape for all my logos. I'll suggest to take a look at some youtube tutorial once you have an idea of the task you have to do on your logo.
