Issue with Engine Size in Designer

I searched but couldn't find anything on this. I was designing a new car, that needed a new engine family. I set the family capacity to 3.5 litres, too big for the car I was making. I went to lower it to 3.2 for this car itself, but it still said too big for car. The issue is, it never changed size when I made the 3.2 engine variant.

Re: Issue with Engine Size in Designer

did you change the bore or the stroke? because changing the stroke doesn't do that much in terms of size reduction

Re: Issue with Engine Size in Designer

Also, you might want to check if you changed the family size or the variant size. The variant size does not change the external size of the motor, just the bore and stroke within the original block. Even the smallest family member will not fit if your largest family member cannot.

Re: Issue with Engine Size in Designer

I changed the variant size. But let me get this right, the family size, determines the engine block dimensions, while the variant size only changes the internals, the bore and stroke. Does that sound right?

Re: Issue with Engine Size in Designer

Ahh okay, I did not know that. I just did a test though. I am guessing this is not implemented, but when adjusting the bore of a variant, (so the block size is already made) the bore does not change visually, is this a bug or something just not yet implemented? In other words for clarification, a variant of bore 86 mm looks exactly the same as a variant of bore 77.4 mm ( I tested this on a straight 6)

The graphics are not that detailed and this being a tycoon game, I'm not sure if they ever will be.

Re: Issue with Engine Size in Designer

Makes sense. Thank you KLinardo. I hope they do implement it but it is not important. I am just glad I know how it works now. Thank you again for clarifying!

Re: Issue with Engine Size in Designer

Yeah, doing actual changes of Bore and Stroke visually is a fresh kind of hell, so we don't do it. :)
