Transferring Cars from Standalone to Steam Versions

So I finally took everyone's advice and I decided to convert my standalone key to a steam key. I really wanted to have the open beta and I realized that things would be streamlined on steam. I already had a steam account, it was on my computer, I had no real reason to wait any longer. I just liked my standalone version.

Be that as it may, I converted my key, started my game, hit sandbox, and there was an empty car and engine library staring back at me. I don't know if I missed the memo somewhere, but I never even thought to export all of my cars and engines in standalone before converting to steam. (Maybe that should be added to the pop-up when you hit the convert button.) Naturally I don't have the export function because I cannot play my standalone version any longer.

So I need help. Can someone please give me step-by-step instructions on how to manually move standalone engines and cars so that I can import them into the steam version?

Re: Transferring Cars from Standalone to Steam Versions

I think you just need to copy the files to a different location: the save location for the steam version is in documents/my games/automation, not documents/automation. If I remember correctly, I'm currently not at my PC. :-)

When I open Documents\My Games I have both Automation and Automation_Standalone folders in the My Games folder.

If you had the pre steam version for standalone then the cars will not be compatible, if you did update your standalone after the steam update though just do as above

My last standalone update added the V6 N/A to the game. Was there a subsequent update to that when the steam open beta came out?

So if I just copy the contents of my cars and engines standalone folders to my steam cars and engines folders they should appear in the steam version? I just want to make sure I'm not oversimplifying it. If it's that simple I'm relieved.

Yeah, it's that simple, though be aware some cars might not load due to the save bug that was present in that version, but for the most part it's that simple

yeah, the calcs have been redone, some tweaks may have to be made to get your cars as they have been initially
