Dude, where's my car?

I've experienced this issue ever since the first Steam release. I go to create a car, finish it, go back to the main menu, do some other things, then exit the game. When I come back, there is a good chance that the car I created the last time I played... is gone! The weird thing is that every time I've seen this happen, the engines I have made during the creation of the car are still there.

I kinda wish the manual save was put back in.
