Mufflers As Part Of The Vehicle Body

If you're like me, you like to make an engine (and it's variants) and use that engine for different applications, for many model years.

And as you put the engine into say, a family car, you want it to be silent, but when you put the same engine into a more sporting car you want it to be loud, as that single change can make a significant difference in how competitive the car is in it's class.

But that change unfortunately is tied to the engine itself, which requires you to change mufflers each time you switch to a different car.

I suggest making that option separate from the engine so that we don't have to keep switching everytime we load a different type of car.

While not a terrible idea, you could just make a copy of your desired variant and change the muffler selection.

Considering it could have multiple stat effects on the engine itself, it kind has to be part of the engine design. However it'd totally make sense to have a few varients of the same engine with different exhaust setups for different applications.

yeah, it would make total sense to do so, even in IRL take the 2JZ engine for example, it's famously known for being in the toyota supra, and you can imagine that having a sporty muffler on it, then you have this other toyota sedan (name's escaping me right now) which also had a 2JZ engine, but since it was more of a family car you can imagine it'd have more normal mufflers there

Take a look at the upcoming engine designer revamp too, the exhaust will be an integral part of engine design even more then. :)

Would it be possible to move the muffler selection into the "trim" section with the transmission, wheels, suspension and so forth?

You could still design the exhaust in the engine designer but the mufflers would be part of the "car class package". They have marginal effect on the actual performance anyways.

EDIT: How do you copy an engine exactly? I know there's an icon near the car variants to copy it, but I'm unaware of a way to copy an engine.

In the drop down menu for engine variant there is a clone button.
