Drum width

Have had an idea kicking around for some time and would like to share it. I suggest that the drums have a width option (you can use the options window much like for # of pistons), IRL drums come in many different widths and not just one fixed size like we have now, by being able to select a wider drum you will have better braking and less fade since you have more mass to absorb and dissipate the heat but at the cost of MUCH higher weight, material costs, production costs and slightly higher service costs (I hate heavy drums) BUT this would still be cheaper than all but the smallest discs. For example 10inx1 10inx2 10inx3 etc. BUT this is if you have enough offset to use, much like how you need larger rims for larger discs, if you dont have enough offset then you cant use the max size drums. What are your thoughts?

Re: Drum width

Sounds reasonable. And if you look in a catalog for drum shoes, there are many sizes out there.

Re: Drum width

I like it. I like it a lot. That could make drum brakes the weapon of choice for utility vehicles in a way that it isn't right now.

Re: Drum width

Reasonable indeed, technically that would be making our current wheel size nightmare worse than it is already - an intrinsically flawed way of handling wheel size (hence the jumpiness and other problems with it) that cannot be fixed for now, but will be once we switch over to UE4. Then we might consider this mechanic for drum brakes :)

Re: Drum width

Pretty well! The functionality of the engine designer is fully ported already I think :)

No, no sneak peak, because people don't understand development. It is fuggly as hell right now, naturally. So no, we won't show that before it actually looks like an improvement ;) which it will in the future once it's more finished.
