This next challenge should keep you busy for a while ;)
Download the following XML and put it in your documents/automation/engines/ folder.

Your kids have tampered with your engine design while you were away to grab a cup of coffee. All the settings are screwed up. Bring it back up to its original state.
You may only change the following 4 sliders:
    Compression
    Cam Profile
    Fuel Mixture
    Ignition Timing

Achieve the following specs:
    Max Power >= 130 hp
    Max Torque >= 172 Nm
    Economy < 900 g/kWh
    Lifespan > 400 MRevs

Re: Challenge Thread

This should do it, I guess

EDIT.: THIS one should do it.

Challenge for you.

The year (and technology year too) was 1989. It became a milestone for Cossack Autos. The company's first engine with fuel injection instead of carburettors was made. As you can expect from Cossack Autos it had some drawbacks. The 1.8 engine was heavy (but not that much), and it had only 70 hp of power (which was only competitive with diesels of that period), but it was practically indestructible. And it was VERY economic. And VERY cheap. And, actually, it was pretty difficult to design.

Let's get back in time.

The year IS 1989. You are the head engineer of Cossack Autos. The guys above gave you specifications you must achieve.
After some reading...
-HOW THE F...HELL I AM SUPPOSED TO MAKE THIS?!
-You said the same kind of crap when you were developing 2200S engine.
-Right...

Technology year:1989
Use fuel injection (it'd be impossible without it anyway)
Must run on Regular 91 Unleaded
Costs in 1990 Spain & Portugal factory <= 870$
Service Costs <=625$/year
Power >=70 hp
Lifespan >=800 Mrevs
Economy <=300g/kWh
Weight <= 150 kg
Emmisions < 80 g/kWh
Bore:82 mm
Stroke:85 mm

Re: Challenge Thread

This is the best I could do. The graph shows lower than 350 at the beginning but @700 rpms (the first number it displays) it says 350nm. I'll leave that up to you to decided if it counts. ;)

Re: Challenge Thread

Well I guess it's close enough. Here's one possible engine for this scenario:

Re: Challenge Thread

i love how wildly different our engines are. :mrgreen:

Anyway,

New Challenge

The year is 2012. Assuming the Mayan's were wrong and the world doesn't end, SMC wants to brake into the market of hot hatches to compete with titans like Cossack Autos. You have been commissioned to build an engine that is both powerful (for a family car), environmentally friendly, and suitable for daily usage.

Tech Specs
  • Manufacture year = 2012
  • Factory <= 2012
  • Power >= 150hp
  • Emissions <= 40g/kwh
  • Loudness <= 30
  • Smoothness >= 60
  • Lifespan >= 850MRevs
  • Economy <= 180g/kwh
  • Fuel Octane <= 91 RON
