2LS Brake Fade?

Does a 2LS brake design improve brake fade vs. SLS in real life? It seems like it would, since the pressure is on two shoes instead of one, but I don't really know.

The reason I ask is because currently the 2LS brakes have more braking force, but offer no improvement to brake fade in the game. if the answer to my question is yes, then I think that should be incorporated into the 2LS brakes in the game.

The base brake fade should probably be a bit better, overall the design is still really bad for brake fade in general though :)

I tried yesterday to put 2LS on my BRC 1955 entry, just to see what would happen.
The brake fade increased, but the stopping distance was shorter and other stats also improved.
You only change the brake shoes with 2LS, not the drum itself. So, more energy going into the drum, with no increase in heat dissipation.

Brake fade is not just related to the heat of the drum/disc, but also to the heat of the pads themselves.

Since you have more pad surface in contact with the drum, brake fade should be, like Rob said, slightly better.

".. pad surface in contact with drum...." that means friction, friction generates heat, (that is the function of a brake :geek: ), more fiction = more heat = more brake fade.

Braking converts the car's kinetic energy into heat.

That amount of total energy dissipated into heat doesn't vary depending on the friction.

Trackpaduser is right, but Automation is also right. If you slow down from the same speed, the same amount of energy will be transferred to the brakes regardless of the amount of friction or surface area the brake pads/shoes have. However, a possible cause for the brake fade to go up could be that Automation also takes into account heat dissipation. Let's say you make a car stop from 100km/h to 0km/h in 50 meters vs 100km/h to 0km/h in 500 meters. The same amount of energy has been transferred to the brakes, but the 500 meter brakes have had time to cool. In a closed system however, the brakes would be at the same temperature.

To sum it up, if braking from the same speed to 0, the same amount of energy will be transferred to the brakes. However, the increased amount of time it takes for an inferior brake to stop could mean that it cools down more efficiently, meaning less brake fade.
