Re: Help us out: How should the building interiors look?

Here's a good image for a design room! This is and early 60s design room at Prince. I like the idea of the shelves at the back with models of all the cars you've made previously. Of course, Prince at the time wasn't a tiny company so this would probably be one of the later design room designs. It's a start though :D

There's more fantastic pictures of the DAT/Datsun/Prince factories here http://www.earlydatsun.com/factoryprince1961.jpg The first and second pictures are great!

Here's another early '60s design room at AMC. It's good to see the colours you may want to use as well.

And another, later, full 1:1 clay model area.

I have to admit it's very difficult to find pictures of old factories, and even harder to find their design studios. All I can suggest is not to leave the room too small. Aquiring a barn or large shed, or even an abandoned factory in England was not so expensive back in the 50s. Also, don't forget the blueprint/yellow trace paper :P

Are there going to be people walking around in thick glasses, slicked hair, and 1950's suits? :P

Re: Help us out: How should the building interiors look?

Me and Zeussy were talking about this exact thing last night.

We'd love to do it, sadly I can't model people to save my life... honestly, my human character models look like bad sci-fi robots and my character animation is.. yeah.. :P

If we can afford to hire someone with more talent at some point, then hell yeah!

That reminds me of Days Of Thunder :

Maybe for the 80's and later, there would be a computer. Everybody knows companies can't live without it !

I also cut some pictures in "Michel Vaillant", a well known car comic that I particularly like. We can see some people working in the offices :

A 50's one :

A 80's one :

A modern one :

These can also be ideas about car designs. Notice that Vaillante (the comic's main car company) has always been a precursor in car designs... ;)

Well, I do hope it helps you... :)

Re: Help us out: How should the building interiors look?

For an Interior Designer, what about a clean room with tissues/leather rolls, walls full of car radios, speakers, steering wheels...
And in the middle of this room, a seat wich would represent our car's driver seat, and that could help us in seing the effects of our changes.

By the way, I've got an off-topic idea :
Maybe it could be possible to do car interiors...

If we just apply the main interior texture (tissue or leather) into the interior part of the body model (roof, floor, door panels and other hidden parts like the trunk), that would fit to the body.
Then, it could possibly be possible ( :D ) that the dashboard could automatically fit in the car next to the hood and stretch (just like the head/taillights) to the interior's width, so the main problems would be resolved. And then, just have to look for a way to place door handles and seats. But this last thing could eventually be manually done.

I know it would be very difficult to do this, but I think I've found a way of making this possible...

Re: Help us out: How should the building interiors look?

Nup the problem is to make a good looking interior (not to mention interiors for every era) that fits any size of car is... yeah.. lots of work.

The only way interiors will ever get in is if we do really well with automation and get a chance to make expansions :P
